GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
This position is primarily responsible for providing behavior support, crisis intervention, and counseling to students with behavioral and emotional difficulties. Additional responsibilities will include participating in the development of individual service plans (ISP) and individual education plans (IEP) as needed.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, REQUIREMENTS AND PREREQUISITES
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or other human services field. License preferred.
- Minimum of three-years experience providing counseling services to children and families
- The employee must be able to participate in and be certified in crisis de-escalation technique, and perform First Aid and CPR.
- Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
- Familiarity with state licensing standards preferred
- Valid Virginia Drivers’ License and proof of insurance
- Satisfactory Driving Record
- Good oral, written, interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to organize work effectively
- Ability to maintain records, prepare reports and required paperwork according to licensing and agency requirements on a timely basis
- Basic computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office
- Ability to drive agency vehicle and access to a personal vehicle for client transport
- Ability to observe health and safety regulations
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions: May be required to perform any of the following duties:
- Provides services that include but are not limited to behavior assessments, behavior support, crisis intervention, cognitive behavioral programming, service coordination, individual and group, and family training and support groups
- Provides treatment interventions and options including behavior support, social skill development, problem-solving, anger management, situational crisis, community responsibility, increased impulse control, appropriate peer relations, and crisis intervention.
- Contributes in staff meetings, coaching and providing guidance on individual behavioral management issues as well as providing feedback to staff members on group issues.
- In cooperation with the Principal, creates and provides training to staff on behavioral management and interventions.
- Provides therapeutic interventions for clients in crisis, to include the use of approved verbal and physical intervention techniques, and the implementation of the Agency's behavior management practices according to policy & procedures.
- Attends all related school or Agency review teams, staffing, trainings, group supervisions, etc. as required
- Provides case management and service coordination among other service providers. This includes advocacy and other networking and supportive activities on behalf of families. Attends Family Assessment and Planning Teams/Court/IEP meetings as necessary.
- Creates and maintains health and human referral resources for students and families.
- Participates in individual and group supervision meetings.
- Provides and documents daily direct services and maintains a daily log of services to include a description of the student’s behavior, staff interventions, and the response to the interventions.
- Maintains mandatory record keeping and reports and follows established procedures in accordance with those of the agency, Department of Education, and accreditation.
- Participates as needed in the development and/or review of all ISP’s and IEP’s to ensure counseling component consistency with goals and objectives.
- Ensures compliance with Virginia Mandated Reporter guidelines.
- Ensures all files and documentation are complete and accurate, and all relevant confidentiality and privacy requirements are met.
- Provides coverage for Principal when he/she is away in decisions related to day-to-day operation of the program either as the educational designee or the Principal or in collaboration with the educational designee
- Assures the health, safety, and therapeutic support of all clients by quickly responding to emergencies and potentially unsafe situations with youth in crisis.
- Performs other duties as assigned
