Position for Greek-speaking Post-doctoral researcher

The department of Psychology, at the University of Cyprus welcomes applications for the employment of one Greek-speaking Post-doctoral researcher to work for a Horizon 2020 research programme that is financed by the European Union(EURO-3-2014 - Europeansocietiesafterthecrisis). The research programme is entitled: Re.Cri.Re. - Between the representation of the crisis and the crisis of representation. How crisis changed the symbolic background of European societies and identities. Implicationforpoliciesandpolicymaking».

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Post-doctoral researcher will conduct research related to the research programme. The successful candidate is expected to have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • To collect longitudinal data from Greek-Cypriot Press and to conduct group discussions with Greek-Cypriot citizens of different ages concerning the topic of immigration and/or sexual orientation.
  • To conduct analysis of the material related to the change of social representations of immigration and/or sexual orientation in the Greek-Cypriot context.
  • To write up a thorough report of the findings of analysis

The project is part of a larger research programme that aims at:

  • understanding the social-psychological dimensions that contribute to the organization of contexts of life in different European contexts.
  • understanding the processes of change of social representations regarding central social issues (e.g. Democracy, Participation, Islam, Health, Wellbeing, Immigration, Homosexuality) within 15 years, in different European countries.
  • studying the ways that social policies regarding different social issues (e.g. education, children’s rights, gender policies, labor rights) have influenced social life and identity of European citizens.
  • the development of scientifically grounded guidelines for social policies in 5 different European macro-regions, following seminars with relevant policy makers, opinion leaders and stakeholders.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates should fulfill the following criteria:

  • Have a PhD degree in Psychology, preferably with a specialization in Social Psychology. Candidates with PhD degrees from related disciplines (i.e. Sociology, Political Sciences) will also be considered, but preference will be given to Psychology PhD degree holders.
  • To have very good knowledge of qualitative methodology and of software programs designed for qualitative analysis (e.g. ATLAS ti, NVivo).
  • Previous experience in related research programs and methodology will be considered as additional qualifications.
  • Academic performance, inclination and motivation to conduct research will be considered as essential qualifications.
  • Excellent knowledge of Greek and English language.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The contract of the position is valid for 8 months (January 2016 until August 2016).Monthlygrosssalarywillbe €2.571. From this amount, employee and employer contributions will be deducted. The programme does not include 13th salary and healthcare provisions.
