Hello Families, 9-8-17
We survived the first three days of third grade! What a great group of kids! I can tell already that we are going to have a wonderful year. We have 21 students, 11 girls and 10 boys.
I am blessed this year to be working with two amazing co- workers in our classroom. Mrs. Mindy Glover provides extra support as needed to students and Mrs. Nancy Amell helps everyone as well. They are awesome and your kids will love them!
Each night I will be sending home a daily homework folder. I feel that to wait until Friday each week takes away from the importance of sharing special activities and projects each and every day. One side is for homework and the other for all other papers. You may use the homework side for any important notes to me.
I will be sending home a communication journal each Friday. (starting next Friday) Please sign and return these journals by the following Monday. You will be able to see student behaviors as well as teacher comments and please give your comments.
We will be voting on a new student of the week each Friday. (starting next Friday) The kids will be given time to think about a special student displaying responsible and respectful behavior. When your child has been voted the student of the week, they will have a special poster to fill out and return. They may also bring pictures and/or favorite items to share.
Monthly award assemblies will be at 8:30am located in the Intermediate Gym. Please see/keep the ½ sheet that came home with dates.
Homework is assigned Monday-Thursday evenings. Please communicate with me if things are too challenging/easy/time consuming, etc. Setting up a consistent routine will help homework run smoothly this year. 20 minutes of nightly reading is required Monday-Thursday evenings. Parents please sign the homework agenda.
I have sent the September snack calendar home. I will try to match your child with their birthday as much as possible. Please contact me if you are unable to participate.
Reader’s Club will begin next week. All students are expected to read and report on at least one book per week. (40 books per year) More information will be shared at Open House
(September 21 @ 6:30pm)
Spelling words will begin on Monday with a test each Friday. We have a new spelling and reading series. On short weeks, we probably won’t do spelling.
