Question: We would like permission to inspect a Police Post in Sault Ste Marie to get an idea of the general make-up of the UST system. Can we just contact the Desk Sargeant to gain access? Also what is the average tank size used at the S.P.P.? They are not listed in the UST database.

Response: UST Inspection - Yes you may inspect the USTs at any MSP Post. Please make contact with the contact listed below.

Response: Average Tank Size – The actual tank size as Vehicle and Travel Services has in it records is identified in the chart below.

Response: UST Database –Using the UST Database and entering DMB in the ‘Owner’ field should bring up most if not all of the USTs listed below.

Question: Do all the tanks contain gasoline?

Answer: Yes

Question: The specification alluded to drums for removal of the liquids. I would like to know if the State would like us quote it via removal, transportation and disposal via tanker truck? Then the product could be removed in bulk and transported to a disposal/recycling facility.

Answer: This method of removal is acceptable. The state would like the fuel removed in the cheapest manner possible.

Question: Can a vac truck be utilized to remove remaining product for USTs in addition to or in place of placing liquids in barrels or drums.

Answer: This method of removal is acceptable. The state would like the fuel removed in the cheapest manner possible.

Question: Do you have additional specifications for the work involving the sixteen (16) sites?

Answer: No

Question: How many gallons remain in each of the twelve (12) tanks currently listed as empty? Can someone at each post obtain this information?

Answer: Yes, please make contact with the contact listed below.

Question: When do you anticipate the other four (4) tanks to be empty?

Answer: All tanks are ‘unable to pump fuel’ or ‘empty’. A couple of tanks had dispenser failures that closed the tank early. Specific fuel levels for these tanks have been included in the chart above.

Question: What is the bid due date/time?

Answer: The current bid due date is on the Bid4Michigan website.

Question: When is the work to be done?

Answer: The work should be performed within four months after the bid award is received. The state is interested in the having the work be done in the cheapest manner possible.

Question: Who is doing the required sampling and testing?

Answer: The request is to have a vendor perform all the necessary functions to make the USTs certification DEQ ‘inactive’. If there is sampling and testing required, the awarded vendor will have to perform these functions.

Question: Backfill the with fill sand?

Answer: The request is to have a vendor perform all the necessary functions to make the USTs certification DEQ ‘inactive’. If there is backfill wi9th sand required, the awarded vendor will have to perform this function.

Question: VTS office address and contact for delivery of the TRAK equipment?

Question: Could you tell me if the bidding for the underground fuel tank removal "inactive phase" is to be bid as each site individual or as a whole group bid?

Answer: Quotes for each site that a vendor wishes to bid on are expected. Awards will be made by sites.

Question: What is the expected start date of this project?

Answer: As soon as the bids are received, a award decisions will be made, approvals will be sought from State Purchasing and then vendors will provided award notices and be able to start work.

Question: Is Fire Damage Limit Insurance required?

Answer: Vendors should carry insurance consistent with DEQ regulations for this type of work.
