Purpose / This unit standard is for people working in a self-managed capacity and who may have some responsibility for the performance of others,in a Riding for the Disabled (RDA)context.
People credited with this unit standard are able to,according to NZRDA standards, demonstrate understanding of: the purpose of pre-evaluation documentation and consent in preparation for a new rider enrolled in atherapy programme and the role of the RDA Coach; and assisttherapist with performing a new rider evaluation.

4In the context of this unit standard, understanding means that there should be evidence of a learner’s thorough comprehension of a topic. A learner with a good understanding of a topic should have applied, or should be able to apply what they have learnt to a RDA situation and will be able to alter their practices to the different contexts they are applying their learning to. Assessors should be confident that the learner's understanding is embedded in their practices and behaviour.
Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Demonstrate understanding of the purpose of pre-evaluation documentation and consent in preparation for anew rider therapy evaluation according to NZRDA standards.
Evidence requirements
1.1Describe the purpose of the documentation required by NZRDA to perform a therapy evaluation for a new riderin conjunction with a registered therapist.
1.2Describe the purpose and timing of completion of consent and other forms required.
Outcome 2
Demonstrate understanding of the role of the RDA Coach, and assist the therapist with performing atherapy evaluation for a new rideraccording to NZRDA standards.
Evidence requirements
2.1Describe the planning, coordination and preparation for anew riderenrolled in a therapy programme.
2.2Describe the rider handling and movingprocedures to be used, and the procedures by which these are determined during thetherapy evaluation for a new riderbased on resource availability.
2.3Assist with handling and moving procedures used by a therapist in a therapy evaluationfor a new rider.
2.4Describe the intentions and benefits of rider positions used in atherapy session.
Rangerider positions – forwards, backwards, sidesitting, prone, supine, propping.
2.5Record results and recommendations ofa therapy evaluationfor a new rider.
