Citibank Introduces New Security Element for Internet banking

From January 13, 2007, Citibank has introduced for all users of internet banking the necessity to useauthentication Security Key to login into the system.

Citibank is an innovative bank that uses the most advanced technologies and the issue of client security is our priority.Our aim is to offer the best products available in the market and thus, in order to secure clients‘ access to Internet banking, we have chosen the highest possible security standard, the one that utilizes one-off passwords that are generated by authentication calculator,“ said Bert Pijls, Business Manager of Citibank Retail Banking Division.

Citibank’s decision to use the Security Key to enhance its internet banking security has been further supported by results of a survey carried by United Interactive company.“The survey was carried among Citibank’s existing and potential customers.Our aim was to find out what solution is preferred by our clients and which solution is the most comfortable to them.The clear winner of the poll was the type of security achieved through the employment of authentication calculator.Our internet banking users clearly tend to prefer this very type of security over certificates or codes sent to them via sms messages, or using chip cards,“ said Robert Chmelař, Citibank Direct Banking Manager.

Beginning by January 13, 2007, in addition to entering their user’s name and password, all users of Citibank Online internet banking, upon login into the system, will also have to enter a numerical code generated by the Security Key.Upon each login into the system a one-time numerical code will be generated for each user.Furthermore, the operation ofthis Security Key is also protected by a five-digit PIN code that is chosen by each user upon his/her very first use of the system.
