SGroup AT EAIE IN GLASGOW

The SGroup Network is pleased to invite its members and partners to an informal get-together during the opening reception at 18.30 at at the Glasgow Science Centre (1st floor at the Info Point in front of the escalator). You can view a venue layout hereGSC Venue Layout 2015.

The SUCTI project is organising a special meeting during the EAIE conference Room EB, Location: Crowne Plaza, 1st floor (the room is also indicated on the conference floor plan) on Thursday 17 September, 15.00-16.00. We invite all SUCTI trainers and member universities interested in joining the project. The number of places is limited so please send your confirmation to .

You are also very welcome to visit us at the Egracons’ booth 816 for an official launch of the Egracons tool in particular during our special Meet&Greet scheduled on 16 and 17th September between 11am-12pm.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR SGROUP EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE 2015-2017

According to the statutory regulations of the SGroup Network Article 13 approved in Cluj-Napoca on May 13, 2009, a call for nomination has been launched for a position of Executive Committee member 2015-2017. Candidates should be familiar with the SGroup’s activities, present relevant expertise and initiative to develop the network.

Applications should be sent by 4th October to the SGroup’s Secretariat at General Assembly will conduct the elections of the candidates during the Internal Business meeting on 6th November in Las Palmas.

SGROUP TRAINING COURSE: TEACHING IN ENGLISH IN THE UNIVERSITY CLASSROOM: AN INTENSIVE COURSE IN ENGLISH MEDIUM INSTRUCTION – REGISTRATION OPEN

We invite the SGroup members to a training workshop dedicated to Teaching in English in the University Classroom – an intensive course in English Medium Instruction to be held in Brussels between 10-12 December 2015. The aim of the course is to provide university teachers with practical skills and guidelines on methodological aspects and strategies for teaching through a foreign language.

The course is a response to the needs analysis and the findings of the study carried out by Robert O’Dowd from the University of Leon that confirmed that a structured approach is required to build necessary capacities with regard to strategies for teaching in English.

SELECTION RESULTS OF ERASMUS+ CALL FOR PROPOSALS

We are pleased to announce the selection results of project proposals submitted jointly by our partner institutions in collaboration with the SGroup Network. The followingprojectshavebeenselected for funding:

  • Erasmus without Paper under the lead of Ghent University co-ordinated by Valère Meus
  • CALOHEE project on Measuring and Comparing Achievements of Learning Outcomes in Higher Education in Europe co-ordinated by the University of Groningen
  • Strategic Partnership for the Implementation of the University International Co-operation and Human Action Network (UNICAH) co-ordinated by the University of Palmas de Gran Canaria

The Skill Project - SKILL – Supporting Knowledge and employability through e-Learning and mobiLity under the Erasmus+ programme, co-ordinated by the University of Porto is still on the reserve list.

SGROUP GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2015 - CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

The SGroup’s General Assembly will take place at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria between 6-7 November 2015. The theme of the year’s event is “Connecting the world by shaping a global mindset - the impact of internationalisation strategies at SGroup’s universities”.

We would like to invite the SGroup members to contribute to the programme by presenting case studies on the following topics:

  • Role of leadership and governance in the internalisation policy of universities
  • Strategies of internationalising campuses and programmes

Case studies should be submitted to the SGroup Secretariat in writing (max 200 words) by 22nd September at .

In order to help you plan your trip we are pleased to inform the GA participants that the ULPGC has offered us a special agreement with Iberia as Preferred Airline​​. We also encourage you to make your early bookings at the recommended hotel directly where special group rates have been negotiated.

SGROUP LIAISON OFFICERS’ MEETING 2015 - CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

The Liaison Officers’ meeting 2015 to be held at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria between 5-6 November 2015 will focus on “Enhancing the impact of internationalisation strategies through professionalisation of staff and services”. We inviteourmembers to sharetheirpractices on:

  1. Internationalisation at home practices for either students, teachers and researchers,or administrative staff members developed in a structured way within your universities e.g. counselling or coaching services, competence development training activities etc.
  2. Successful examples of capacity building or staff development programmes with universities from beyond Europe in particular the USA, China, Latin America or ACP countries.

Case studies should be submitted to the SGroup Secretariat in writing (max 200 words) by 22nd September at .

SPECIAL CALL-FOR-PAPERS: HIGHER EDUCATION, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, AND THE GLOBAL PUBLIC GOOD

Higher Learning Research Communications(HLRC), an international, multilingual, open-access journal advancing knowledge about teaching and learning in higher education invites scholars, researchers and higher education professionals to explore the role that colleges and universities can, should, and must play in addressing a shared public good for the benefit of local communities and for the preservation of our global shared space and future.

Essays, policy analyses, reports of successful projects, or research papers are welcome on the following topics (among others):

  • How are faculty, staff, and administrators engaged and supported in advancing the global public good as a part of their work?
  • What educational strategies prepare graduates to be globally competent citizens able to act locally in an interdependent world?
  • What measures of accountability demonstrate institutional effectiveness in serving the public good locally and transnationally?

2015-2016 OPEN CALL FOR PAPERS ON HIGHER EDUCATION

The Higher Learning Research Communications (HLRC) journal is also accepting manuscripts for future editions of its Volume 5 (2015) and Volume 6 (2016).

HLRC invites researchers, academics, and higher education institutions worldwide to submit their manuscripts for peer review. All papers relevant to higher education research, policy, and practice will be considered, including literature reviews, reports, case studies, survey research and data analyses, and book reviews, among others.

Other scheduled Special Call for Papers will include Academic Quality Assurance in Higher Education (2016), Women in Higher Education (2017), and a second special issue on Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and English –Mediated Instruction (EMI) in Higher Education (2017).

EU-LAC FOUNDATION'S OPEN CALL FOR RESEARCH PROJECTS

The EU-LAC Foundationopens Call for Research Projects on topics of relevance for the relationship between the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Open Call is part of the Foundation’s effort to promote mutual knowledge and visibility of the partnership among the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean Stimulating debate on issues that are relevant to the EU-LAC agenda enables the Foundation, within its work programme “Explore”, to propose ways of cooperating on these issues in the bi-regional relationship.

The current edition welcomes research proposals from among academic disciplines pertaining to the realm of social sciences and the humanities (e.g., Political Science, Sociology, Economics, History).

Each edition of the Open Call awards one research project. The maximum gross amount of funding is €30,000. The Foundation will publish the results of the selected study.

The deadline to present the proposal is 30 September 2015.
