Mission

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences is a community of scholars, who, in accordance with the mission of Australian Catholic University, are committed through their teaching and learning, scholarship and research, to the pursuit of knowledge and of truth. The Faculty seeks to encourage an engagement of faith and culture.

The Faculty's role is to preserve, advance and disseminate knowledge and to promote and deepen understanding in the Arts and Sciences. Within the University, and in conjunction with other universities and institutions, it seeks to promote scholarship and research.

The Faculty aims in its teaching to foster in students an understanding of traditions of knowledge and creative expression within the Arts and Sciences, together with the skills and the intellectual and moral virtues characterstic of critical inquiry and creative practice within those traditions.

The Faculty is committed to sharing the benefits of its teaching, research and creative practice with the community in the exploration and development of the intellectual, aesthetic, spirtual and ethical aspects of life.

School of Business

The School of Business offers high standards of business education and stresses a practical, problem solving approach to learning. As members of the ACU National University community, students have the opportunity to develop personal values as well as professional skills.

ACU Bachelor of Business

This course prepares students for entry-level employment and future managerial positions. It develops understanding of, and proficiency in, the principles of business required in a variety of commercial, industrial and service organisations including agencies across all levels of government, and a variety of non-profit bodies. Major areas of study include accounting, financial services, human resource management, information systems and marketing.

The Bachelor of Business has a common first year undertaken by all students which introduces the various major fields of study. Students select their majors from second year. In keeping with the Mission of the University, several units within the degree focus on business ethics and personal values of the individual in a workplace setting. One compulsory unit of Professional Industry Experience is also incorporated in the degree. The Professional Industry Experience gained over the three years is designed to assist students to link their studies to the 'real world' of work, and to assist in gaining career employment on graduation.
