· Small piece orange foam or felt (for nose)
· 5-10 raisins or currants (for mouth and some for a healthy snack)
· Small snip (about 4-5 cm) tinsel garland (for hat decoration)
· ~ 30 cm Christmas yarn (for hanger)
· White paint
· Black paint
· Paintbrush
· Glue
· Hot glue (for gluing on hanger)
Directions: (you may want to paint the popsicle sticks at a separate time to ensure that they are dry before you put the project together)
- With 8 popsicle sticks make a pencil make about 4-5 cm from one end. Paint the longer end of each popsicle stick white (including edges, no need to paint the back of the stick).
- While you are waiting for the white portion to dry, paint the other popsicle stick black (including edges, but not back).
- Once the white is dry, paint to shorter end of the white popsicle sticks black.
- Once the paint is dry, use white glue to glue the white/black popsicle sticks to the cardboard backing so that none of the backing shows.
- Glue the black popsicle stick across the area of the other sticks where the black and white meet. The black stick forms the brim of the hat.
- Place the ribbon just above the hat brim and fold extra to the back. Glue the ribbon on the back
- Glue googly eyes below the hat brim, as shown..
- Cut a triangular nose out of orange felt/foam. Glue pointing down to one side or the other, as shown.
- Glue raisins/currants to form a smiling mouth, as shown.
- Glue the small piece of tinsel garland to form a hat decoration (off to either side or in the middle).
- Make a hanger by folding the yarn in half and tying a knot. Glue to back with hot glue so that it doesn’t come off.
- Hang and enjoy J!
