FACEing Math Project

Think about all the topics that we covered this year. Here are some:

*Rates, Unit Rates, Ratios

*Fractions/ Mixed Numbers (adding, subtracting, dividing, multiplying)

*Percentages/Fractions/Decimals

*Area, Perimeter, Volume

*Rational Numbers

*Algebraic Expressions & Combining like terms

*Coordinate Planes

*Prime Factorization, Great Common Factor, Least Common Multiple

You will be creating your own FACEing Math. Make sure your work is edited and makes sense. One of your classmates will be completing your FACEing Math.

PART 1: QUESTIONS

1. You will create 18 questions on one topic or a mixed of topics. Questions should be challenging.

2. NINE of the questions’ answers will create a “FACE.” This face can be of an animal, monster, or person (not a friend or someone you know). Some examples: astronaut, athlete, doctor, nurse, construction worker, etc. If you have another idea, ask your teacher.

3. NINE of the questions will focus on how the “FACE” will be colored.

PART 2: “FACE”

1. You will create what your “FACE” should look like.

2. Your work needs to be neatly drawn and colored.

3. Extra items that are NOT included in your questions should NOT be drawn in your picture.

PART 3: Writing

Write an adventure story about your “FACE.” Your “FACE” should be going on an adventure where they “run into” Math at least 5 times. Be creative.

Example: (Let’s say my “FACE” was a chipmunk)

Benjamin, the chipmunk decided that he was going to visit his cousins across the woods. This was going to be a long journey for him. He would have to cross rivers and tall grasses. He would also have to travel through other animal’s territories. He was nervous, but excited as well.

The first morning, he woke up 15 minutes before 6 and headed out after he ate a quick breakfast. His first challenge came quickly. There was a 8 foot deep river that he needed to cross, but he had a problem because he could NOT swim!!

(This would be an example of the first two paragraphs of an adventure story. The highlighted/underlined parts are the examples of how the “FACE” or chipmunk ran into math during their adventure.)
