MTG Minutes of – Technology Committee Meeting

- Objectives: Newsletter, Technology Master Plan, Distance Education Update, Computer Conduct Standards/Technology in Student Handbook, Additional IT Resources, Wireless Access Update, TAG Committee (10/4/07), and Other

Newsletter:
- Just a reminder to those who offered to write articles:
- Amy and Scott, maybe a Web Task Force Update? Don?
- Connie praised the level of submissions as including great writing.
Technology Master Plan:
- On hold until approved by Academic Senate.
Distance Education Update:
- Rosi gave an update that included the following:
- Three main focuses of the Distance Ed Task Force: Tech software support, On-line degrees/certificates, and On-line, universal student orientation.
- Goal is to accomplish these focuses by next year.
- Rosi also handed out “Software Titles by Room Number/Department.”
Computer Conduct Standards/Technology in Student Handbook:
- Cindy has been taking the lead on this: She’ll compile and compose a set of standards specific to SCC.
- Bonnie and Alice said that they’d provide Cindy with copies of items they use(d).
- Corinna shared Senate info: go ahead and create standards, send it out, let faculty review it, and then bring it to Senate.
Additional IT Resources:
- For our information, Curt let us know about upcoming additions to IT Staff.
- He also spoke about obtaining a server strictly dedicated to Blackboard sites in the future
- He also encouraged us to think about any technological needs we might anticipate the college needing as we’re so rapidly growing.
Wireless Access Update:
- Curt shared that IT installed a box that is intended to fix problems with Vista and wireless connection.
- Previously students who were running Vista on their laptops had troubleconnecting to the school network.The problem was that studentscould log onto the network,but they would be kicked off periodically.
- Curt said that they don't know if the box hasfixed the problem because it is too soon to tell. He is waiting for more feedback.
TAG Committee (10/4/07):
- The Technology Advisory Group will have its first meeting on Thursday, 10/4 at 2:30p.m.
- The purpose of the group (not a committee according to Curt) is to discuss district wide technology issues such as Turnitin.com.
