Level 1 Unit 1 Meet Technology Vocabulary List

1. technology - Human innovation in action that involves the generation of knowledge and processes to develop systems that solve problems and extend human capabilities. The innovation, change, or modification of the natural environment to satisfy perceived human needs and wants.Technology is designed by people. Engineers take project ideas developed by technology and design and produce solutions to be used. Technology solves problems that could not have been solved without it.

2. science - The study of the natural world through observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanations.Science contributes to the development of technology.Mathematics makes sure technology is developed with precision and accuracy.History lets us know what technologies have or have not worked as well as the impacts they have had.

3. need - Something you have to have to survive.A need is something youhaveto have for survival, something you can't do without. A good example is food. If you don't eat, you won't survive for long. Many people have gone days without eating, but they eventually ate a lot of food. You might not have to have a whole lot of food, but you do have to eat.

5. impact - The effect or influence of one thing on another. Some impacts are anticipated, and others are unanticipated.Impacts can be intended or unintended.

6. society - Relationships among groups of humans.

7. product - A tangible artifact produced by means of either human or mechanical work, or by biological or chemical

8. innovation - An improvement of an existing technological product, system, or method of doing something.

9. quality control –A system for verifying and maintaining a desired level of quality in an existing product or service by careful planning, use of proper equipment, continued inspection, and corrective action as required.

10. system - A set of related parts; together, they form a whole, designed to accomplish some purpose.

11. input – Something put into a system, such as resources, in order to achieve a result.

12. process - The study of the natural world through observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanations.

13. output - The results of the operation of any system.

14. feedback - Using all or a portion of the information from the output of a system to regulate or control the inputs or processes or in order to modify the output.

15. resources - A person, asset, material, or capital which can be used to accomplish a goal.

16. nature - The study of the natural world through observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanations.

17. durable - A good (product) that does not quickly wear out. Examples: cars, household goods, home appliances, consumer electronics, furniture, sports equipment, toys, buildings, television.

18. non-durable goods - A good that is immediately used or has a lifespan of three years or less. Also called soft goods.Examples: food, clothing, fabric, paper.
