Presidents Message
NAMI GWINNETT has had the great opportunity this month to partner with ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA. This spring they have a walk that they want us to partner with them. The organization is 270 strong in the county of GWINNETT. This is a great opportunity for NAMI GWINNETT to educate the public and diversify their membership.
Alpha Kappa Alpha (ΑΚΑ) is the first Greek-lettered sorority established and incorporated by African-American college women. Membership is primarily for college educated women, but not all members have attended college.[4] The sorority was founded on January 15, 1908, at Howard University in Washington, D.C., by a group of twenty students, led by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle. Forming a sorority broke barriers for African-American women in areas where little power or authority existed due to a lack of opportunities for minorities and women in the early 20th century.[5] Alpha Kappa Alpha was incorporated on January 29, 1913.
The organization not only wants to partner with us this year but wants to establish an on-going relationship for 4 to 5 years with NAMI GWINNETT. I think this would be a great opportunity for NAMI GWINNETT to bring their message to an audience that is under served. I wanted the membership to understand what opportunity has been presented to them. I will be meeting with AKA this coming week to finalize the details. They would like to share the proceeds they receive for the walk with us. I would like your opinions and feedback on this venture that is presented to us.
Cordially,
Kevin A. Johnson
NAMI GWINNETT PRESIDENT

Dear NAMI Gwinnett Members
Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church has a no smoking policy, they have been graciously allowing NAMI Gwinnett to be an exception to this policy, please note NAMI Gwinnett has to pay a nominal fee for the use of this building.
The ONLY area designated for smoking is outside of classroom C9 which is the door between the support group rooms, around the corner from the women’s bathroom, there is NO smoking allowed in any other area of LPC. If you have questions on the location of C9 please ask your support group facilitator
LPC has on two different occasions notified NAMI Gwinnett that their staff has found cigarette butts and trash around the building on Wednesday after our Tuesday night meetings, this is not acceptable.
NAMI Gwinnett requests a volunteer, A SMOKER (since you seek the privilege) to make certain at the end of the night that ALL the cigarette butts and trash are picked up, if no one volunteers each Tuesday night there will be NO SMOKING THAT TUESDAY NIGHT!
If NAMI Gwinnett receives a third notification from LPC regarding cigarette butts and trash the privilege of smoking will be permanently revoked.
Thank you
NAMI Gwinnett
