SDFS Deadlines

  • Coordinator’s Workshop registration deadline: May 6,2009

REMINDER: SDFS Coordinator’s Workshop

A Coordinator’s Workshop has been scheduled for May 12th at the Great Wolf Lodge inTraverse City, MI and will include a MEGS training and SDFS Coordinator business meeting. It is scheduled for this date and place to coordinate with the upcoming Michigan Model conference. This is a great opportunity to receive updated information for the 2009-2010 MEGS application,network with other coordinators, and meet with your grant advisor. There is no cost to attend, and SDFS funds may be used to pay for travel, lodging and meals.

Updates to the ODCP Website

  • The Grant Advisor Assignment List has been modified to reflect Shelby Bupp’s leave of absence and Jill Byelich’s current school/ GDG assignments.
  • The ODCP has updated the Unallowable/Allowable Costs.
  • The 2009-2010 SDFS allocations are now available.

2009-2010 SDFS Application

You are encouraged to begin planning for the 2009-2010 year. The MEGS application is scheduled to be on-line in early May. Content and structure are very similar to this year’s application, and nonpublic school forms from the currentapplication may be used until the new application is available.

2008-2009 Final Report

  • The Final Report can now be accessed by clicking the “View Reports” button in the 2008-2009 (blue) application box in MEGS. This report is due by October 29, 2009.
  • Evaluation information, data, and an analysis are required both for reporting purposes (Final Report) and for consideration of future funding. This means prevention programs and one-year waiver programs will not be approved without the required data showing effectiveness of the prevention program implemented.

Governor’s Discretionary Grant

The Michigan Department of Community Health, Office of Drug Control Policy (ODCP) has announced the FY 2010 competitive Governor’s DiscretionaryGrant(GDG) request for proposals. Grant awards are contingent upon the availability of federal funds, and the deadline for submission in MEGS is June 8, 2009. Michigan Schools Pandemic Planning Workbook & Online Toolkit for Educators:The Michigan Departments of Community Health and Education, along with representatives from local health departments and schools, have developed this workbook for school officials to use in planning for an influenza pandemic. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health has issued The NSDUH Report on Exposure to Substance Use Prevention Messages and Substance Use among Adolescents: 2002 to 2007. Information can be found at:

Target stores are accepting applications for Arts, Literacy, and Family Violence Prevention Grants. Target offers store grants to support programs related to the arts, early childhood reading, and family violence prevention in the locations where the company does business. Family Violence Prevention Grants support organizations that provide anti-violence programs such as parenting classes and family counseling. Grants may also provide assistance for support groups and abuse shelters. Applicants may be 501(c)(3) organizations or schools, libraries, or public agencies. Most grants average between $1,000 and $3,000 each. Applications must be submitted online, and the deadline is May 31, 2009. Visit the company's website for more information:
