Staff Council Meeting Minutes

Present: Darlene Bouley, Cathy Baust, Robert Berlin, Rhodney Browdy, Jennifer Butcher, Demica Colbert, Ric Colon, Heidi Eri, Susan Foisy, Susan Hill, Noreen Hodapp, Jeanette Holder, Jamie LaMoreaux, Maritza Pomales, Jennifer Raraigh-Hopper, Kelly Reid, Curtis Slade, Michael Smith and Fran Uddo.

Absent: Carmen Afonso, Tina Davia, Nicole Griffin, and Christopher Joseph.

Special Guest: Dr. Deborah German.

Proceedings:

·  Meeting called to order at 9:30 am, by President, Darlene Bouley

·  Attendance: Sign up sheet in lieu of roll call

·  Introduction of scholarship recipients and guest speaker.

·  Minutes of the November 15, 2007 meeting were read and approved with the following revision to the Scholarship committee naming all the members: Mike Smith, Curtis Slade, Demica Colbert, Maritza Pomales and Nicole Griffin.

·  Minutes of the December 10, 2007 meeting were read and approved.

·  Introduction of new member, Heidi Eri from the Computer Store.

Scholarship Award Recipients: Presented by Michael Smith, acting Interim Chair

5 Book Awards to: Melissa Feyer, Lauren Murphy (absent), Linda Scaglione, Traci Milbuta, and Pauline Strauss. $100.00 each.

2 Dependent Awards: Terry McClellan (Lucretia Cooney) and Elba Miscannon

(Eliana Miscannon),. Each $250.00.

Special Guest Speaker: Dr. Deborah German, Dean, College of Medicine:

Dr. German did a power point presentation with hand outs:

Dr. German shared the following information: The Medical College will be located at Lake Nona near the Orlando Airport. Tavistock donated 50 acres of land and $12.5 million dollars to this endeavor. The medical school will be in the center of a “health city”. The only other place like this is in Dubai Saudi Arabia. Some of UCF’s neighbors will be a $550 million dollar VA hospital and the Burnham Institute.

Medical schools, on average, bring into the local community 5 billion dollars, 218 million in tax revenue and employ 32,000 people (2005).

At this time there is funding for approximately 22 students.

HR Report: Roxane Walton, Associate Director of Human Resources

·  On February 15, 2008, performance appraisals are due in HR.

·  There is no policy regarding if the immediate supervisor is the one who does the performance appraisal.

·  If the employee wishes to add comments after signing, they can submit comments to HR and the department, if they do not feel they had enough time to respond.

·  The employee can start their own goals and accomplishments file, for future reference.

·  There is administrative leave given for voting, but there are strict guidelines. Please refer to the HR website.

·  There is a letter on the Provost’s website regarding the budget cuts.

·  No layoffs in the foreseen future.

At the February meeting the Research committee will report findings of their research of other university benefits compared to UCF benefits.

Treasurer’s Report: Jennifer Butcher Addition of $3.26 dividend on the scholarship account.

Committees

·  Parking Appeals Committee: Bob Berlin explained that there was an incident with a student and a parking service employee. The matter was resolved with the ticket being voided with the employee temporarily suspended.

·  Employee of the Month: HR has agreed to have a staff council member on the committee. It is a two-year term commitment. Those interested in serving on this committee should email Darlene Bouley, and she will submit 2 or 3 names to HR for review.

·  Research Committee: Susan Foisy The committee will meet before the next staff council meeting to discuss results of questionnaire regarding other state university policies and procedures.

·  Special Events: Darlene Bouley (for Christopher Joseph);

1)  Retreat – Possible ½ day retreat in either March or May. Venues in the past include the Canterbury and the Radisson Hotel. Off campus meetings have been at the Rosen College, Coco, Daytona, or Leesburg campuses. If any one has suggestions, please email Christopher and cc Darlene for interest in doing a retreat or off campus meeting at one of the other campuses.

2)  Staff Assembly – April 17th, in the Student Union. Christopher is in need of volunteers. The projected attendance is 100+ staff members. Guests will include William Merck, Mark Roberts, and Robert Holmes. The annual Assembly includes a special guest speaker in additional to HR and university updates, and introduction of new council members.

3)  Relay for Life is April 4 and 5 – Darlene Bouley, Jennifer Butcher and Susan Foisy are interested in starting a team. Please email Christopher Joseph and cc Darlene if interested in joining the team.

·  Marketing Committee: Kelly Reid will get together with Darlene, as flyers will be needed for Staff Assembly.

·  Fundraising: Darlene Bouley Try to sell the Pegasus beanies and pins. The funds are needed to ensure having funds for Spring scholarship/book awards.

·  Fundraising: Noreen Hodapp – Macy’s is having another event March 1. It is requested that there be personnel present to sell at the doors of Macy’s. Susan Hill and Fran Uddo volunteered.

There is a new training series being offered by Human Resources called “Emerging Leaders” – You Don’t Need a Title To Be A Leader”. Darlene is encouraging all to attend. There are 13 seats available, and the cost is $30.00 per person. If your department is not able to pay, the staff council will pay on your behalf.

It is suggested that the Pegasus beanies/ Pegasus Pins be posted on E-Bay to help raise more for staff council projects.

Council will look into having a link to our page placed on the Alumni website.

Second Harvest Food Bank sent a letter of appreciation to the USPS Staff Council for their holiday donation of 571 pounds of food. Letter was circulated at the meeting. Good job done by all council members on this project.
