Expression of Interest: PR/Strategic Communications Consultant, Australian Embassy in Israel

Position: Part-time Consultant

Approximate hours per month: 20 hours

Contract Period: October 2014 to 30 June 2015

Consultant fee: NIS 5,000 per month

Working to: Australian Ambassador and Public Diplomacy Officers

Experience/knowledge required: The consultant/s should be familiar with Australia’s culture, people and geography, national priorities, and the bilateral relationship with Israel. The consultant should have at least two years of relevant work-experience in either public relations or strategic communications field, and has established networks in the media.

A PR/Strategic Communications Consultant would: Assist the Embassy to amplify our message and maximise our outreach to Israel’s diverse communities.

The consultant would deliver the following:

·  Work on the Embassy’s Public Diplomacy/Communications profile. Identify where the Embassy, given constraints on HR and budget, can work to enhance its outreach in Israel (i.e. social media, activities the Embassy organises, Australian/Israeli events/holidays, communications and other PR-related opportunities, contacts etc.). Create a PR/Communications plan (to be completed in first month)

·  Advise the Embassy on reaching out to Israel’s minority communities (e.g. Russian, Arab, Ethiopian, Haredi, Druze etc.) Create a plan for media, activities and/or events for building relationships with minority communities (completed by third month)

·  For specific events that are focus points of the Embassy PD program (for example ANZAC Day in April, Australian Film Festival, Beersheba Conference, ANZAC school program), develop forward plans for obtaining more PR-dividends and better outreach for each event. Create specific event plans and relationships for recurring PD events to maximise potential returns to the bilateral relationship (completed by sixth month)

·  Be proactive in identifying and acting on opportunities to showcase or profile the Embassy and/or Ambassador. Adapt news/events/activities of significant interest in Israel with different communities in Israel where Australia can profile itself (on-going)

·  Enhance exposure for the Australian Embassy in the media for the above mentioned. Assist with press/social media releases, assist with developing closer ties with relevant correspondents/journalists/editors/social media profiles/cultural groups of importance etc. (on-going)

·  Meet fortnightly or as directed by Public Diplomacy staff at the embassy for planning purposes
