______

Materials needed:

  • Textbook: Algebra 2, McDougal Littell for home reference (if requested); MVP & tasks for class
  • Paper & a way to organize class materials (binder orfolders or multi-section notebook), pencils, erasers
  • Your brain! 
  • HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for home use: Graphing Calculator (** TI-84+ graphing calculator ** is what we use in class)
  • Online resources: & Google Classroom

______

My expectations of students:

1) Be respectful.

2) Be responsible.

3) Be ready.

4) Be engaged.

Comply with all other school rules & policies.

Failure to comply with class rules or policies will result in the following consequences (points will be deducted from participation grade for each offense – white cards): 1st offense: warning & discussion, 2nd offense: reflective assignment & parent contact, 3rdoffense: parent contact & detention, 4th offense: referral to administrator

Note: Certain behaviors will result in automatic referrals. Rewards: Praise & privileges (neon cards).

Hot Topics: cell phones – be responsible, for emergencies only; ID Badges – wear them, it’s for all of our safety; food & drinks – at teacher’s discretion, clean up; Chromebooks – take care of & put away; and calculators – you will need a graphing one at home, buy one or we have ones to rent.

Big Ideas: collaborative grouping & structure of the class – you will work individually, together, and as a class to problem-solve, this is to stretch and grow you as a mathematician;IEFA – Act passed in our state government in 1972, we will implement in our classroom; mindsets – growth, accept a challenge; develop Habits of Mind & use Mathematical Practices; and curriculum based upon Montana Common Core State Standards for Mathematics(MCCSS-M).

Assignments: Classwork will consist of warm-up problems assigned, projects, and work in class, along with checks for understanding. These are all tools for you to show me what you know and I expect you to try your best. All work must be shown on problems to receive full credit. Independent Practice: Work will be assigned often and will be graded based on level of understanding. There will be opportunities in class to correct and ask questions about independent work. Again, all work must be shown to receive full credit on the problems assigned. IMPORTANT:Hold on to all homework assignments! They will be handed back to you so you can make corrections and use them for studying and for future displays of understanding.

Absence/Make-up Work Policy: If you are absent in this class, you are responsible for finding out what you missed if the absence is excused. The best method is to look on Google Classroom and talk to a neighbor. If there are further questions, the time to come see me is before school or at the end of your class period. You have the same amount of class days you were absent to make-up an assignment. Students absent on a test or quiz day will be expected to complete the test the next day. Students absent for extended periods of time will be expected to see me to make arrangements for testing. If you are absent because of athletics or a field trip, you must make me aware of the absence in advance. All assignments are due before you leave campus and tests will need to be completed prior to the event. All assignments during a unit can be turned in when a student is ready up until the day of the test. Assessment re-takes are at the teacher’s discretion if students are able to display further mastery in a content area.

Tardy Policy: Students not in their seats by the ringing of the tardy bell will be marked absent and sent to the “sweep room”. This is considered an unexcused absence, resulting in zeroes for the day’s work.

Availability: I am available for extra help before and after schoolfor tutoring but I ask that you make prior arrangements so that I can plan accordingly. If I am not available, there is after school tutoring Monday-Thursday. My goal is for each of you to succeed, so be sure to take advantage of this opportunity. I am more than willing to assist you before and after school with material you do not understand. However, I expect effort on your part as well. I know that each student can succeed if we both try our best!
