TsegBall

TsegBall (pronounced seg-ball) is a co-ed sport that combines elements from handball, basketball, volleyball, rugby, and hop-scotch. These various skill fundamentals are used to create a game where the players can focus on the use of strategy instead of physical prowess (skill) and generates a lot of creativity. Players can only use their hands, so they’ve got to rely on quick thinking and fast reflexes in order to win.

This game may be played indoors or outdoors by adapting the size of the field. The number of players can be increased or decreased depending on the playing space. The game is played with two teams. There are six players on each team when playing indoors and 12 players on each team when playing outdoors.

  • (2) – Goal keepers per team
  • (4) – Throwers per team

Like many games, TsegBall starts from the center of the court/field. The referee will do a coin toss to determine which team will receive the ball first.

How to play TsegBall --

*When a player is in possession of the ball, he/she may NOT run or walk with the ball.

*The player must pass the ball to another player or shot in less than 3 seconds.

* Players may only take 1 stepwhile in possession of the ball.

* Only players who do NOT have possession of the ball may walk or run.

* Defensive players are allowed to intercept or deflect the ball from the offense and it

will be given to the defense.

* If the offense makes any incomplete pass the defense is awarded the ball.

Goal Keepers –

* Each goal is guarded by one goal keeper.

* Goal keepers may not act as throwers. They may only guard their goal.

* The goal keeper MUST stay within his/her designated area until the teacher yells,

“Change goalies.”

* If a goal keeper intercepts a pass/shot (within the goal area) he/she is allowed to hold

the ball for up to (10 seconds.)

* The goal keeper also has unlimited steps within the goal area.

* No one may steal/take the ball from the goal keeper or any other (while the ball is in

their hands.)

* The goal keeper is allowed to pass the ball to anyone on their team.

* When guarding the goal, the goal keeper should stand about (2) feet away from the goal posts.

* If the goal keeper pushes or moves the goal posts while defending the goal, it will be

considered a penalty and will result in a free shot (BACK – THROWING) for the offensive

team.

* Throwers may not come in contact with the goal keepers and vise versa.

Back – Throwing –

* Back throwing is usually used after a penalty/foul.

* One player will need to stand 15’ from the goal with his/her back facing the goal.

* The player will then throw the ball, without looking at the basket.

Howto Score –

* TsegBall has a goal which resembles a basketball hoop, specially designed for this

game.

* The height of the goal should be set slightly below the shoulder height of theaverage

player.

* You may shoot the ball like in basketball, toss it underhanded, or dunk it (as long as

you DO NOT come in contact with the goal keeper or any part of the goal) or make up

your own creative way.

* Each basket is worth (1) point.

Penalty and/or Fouls—

* When a player uses any body part other than their hands to play the ball.

* If goal keeper moves the goal.

* Any unnecessary contact with a thrower or a goal keeper.

Indoor Times and Rounds—

* (4) 15 minute-rounds

* In the event of a tie, the game will be extended to (5) rounds to determine a winner.

* If there is no winner after the fifth round, the winner is determined by a round of back-

throwing.

* Each team will select 4 players from their team to back-throw.

* Each team will alternate until all the players have back-thrown.

* This procedure will continue until there is a WINNER.
