COMMITTEE SHEETS FOR 2009-10 SCHOOLYEAR

Attached to this newsletter is the committee list for the 2009-10 school year. Thank you to all who volunteered!

NOTES FROM MR. C

It is hard to believe that another school year has come and gone in a blink! Summer vacation is just a few days away! Thank you to all of the students, teachers, parents, and the entire WH community for another great year! Many thanks to our fabulous PTA for all they do for the school, our teachers and students!

While summer is here, please encourage your children to continue learning over the summer by spending time a few days a week writing or practicing their math facts. Of course, I know the students will continue to read daily for enjoyment. If you are vacationing this summer, use those experiences as a learning opportunity. If not, use your daily travels as a learning experience.

We at WH would like to wish Mrs. B. (Mrs. Bezsylko-library aide) a happy retirement. Thank you for all of the years you have given to the students and teachers at both WH and Fishing Creek El. We will miss your smiling face, your energy and all of your stories next year, but know that you may come and visit whenever you wish as you will always be a special part of the WH family!

Finally, I will close by wishing the 5th graders much luck and success at CD Middle School next year. You will certainly be missed but we look forward to hearing about your successes, as well as your struggles, as nothing in life comes without hard work! Always remember the positive experiences you had at WH while using any negative experiences as a learning experience!

From everyone here at WH, we wish you all a great summer! See you on August 31 for another great year. Remember:

“LEARN LIKE A CHAMPION THIS SUMMER!”

“MR. C.”

BAKE AND SUB SALE

Thank you to everyone who made the May Election Day Sub sale a huge success. We sold over 800 subs and lots of baked goods for a total profit of $1,684.50. The two Election Day sub sales held this year at West Hanover have earned close to $3500 for our PTA. Again, thank you to everyone who purchased subs, donated items to sell, worked, etc. It really does benefit your school and your children.

CONSUMER REWARDS

BOX TOPS: We had a great year with Box Tops. Please remember to keep collecting in the summer for next year.

MAYFAIR

The 2009 May Fair was a huge success! Thank you to all of theMANY volunteers who came out and helped. We want to especially thank the CD Rams cheerleaders and the football and soccer players for volunteering their time to help out. Big thanks for the dunk tank participants; Mick Iskric, CD basketball and soccer coach, Tom Russell from WHP TV21 and Mr. Correale. Thanks to everyone who came out and had a good time. Congratulations to all of the raffle winners and thank you to everyone who made contributions towards the classroom raffle baskets. We were able to raise over $4,000 for the PTA. We look forward to seeing you all again next year at the May Fair on May 15, 2010!

The winner of the John Baumgardner scholarship is CDHS graduating senior Samantha Green. Samantha will be attending Emory University in the fall. Congratulations to all of the applicants on your achievements.

SCHOOL STORE

Thank you to all the fifth grade students who helped to operate the school store this year. The students at West Hanover enjoyed stopping by in the morning before class to make their purchases! Thank you for taking your commitment and responsibility seriously. Good luck as you move on to CDMS next year! We’ll miss you!

SERVICE PROJECT

Thank you to everyone who participated in our magazine collections, canned food drives for Life Pointe Church and the Grantville Food Bank and our Pennies for Patient’s campaign to benefit the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society this year. Our committee has grown over the past three years and we look forward to participating in more opportunities in which we can teach our students to give back to their community. Consider becoming a member of this committee next year if you have some good ideas on giving back to our community and can be available to help implement programs throughout the year.
