Description of Duties: The Substance Abuse Counselor provides initial program orientation to consumers presenting for treatment of addictive diseases to identify substance abuse issues and related personal problems. Assesses consumer’s treatment needs and assists him/her to develop appropriate individual treatment goals. Teaches consumers recovery and relapse prevention principles.. This position will require flexible hours, including some nights.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in social work, psychology or related human services field OR certification as a certified addiction counselor from the Georgia Addiction Counselors Association (GACA) or equivalent certification. At least one year of experience working with Substance Abuse consumers.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience working in outpatient, inpatient or residential programs that provided both short term and long term treatment (52 weeks or ongoing). Experience working with Co-Occurring Disorders and SPMI consumers. Previous experience working with DBHDD agency.

Pre-employment drug testing and criminal background check required. If appointed, applicant will be subjected to a Fingerprint Based Background Check of the Georgia and Federal Criminal History Record Databases.
