Garden State Teen Book Award Committee

Any member of the Young Adult Services Section can serve on the Garden State Teen Book Award Committee. As part of the Executive Board member duties, the two elected Members-at-Large will be named active members of the GSTBA Committee. Committee members will be appointed at the recommendation of the President and the Executive Board of the Section. The Committee will consist of 6-8 members, not including the Members-at-Large.

As stated in Article 6 of the Young Adult Section By-laws, the President will be an ex-officio member of the Committee. All members of the Committee will have equal rights and privileges.

Committee members will be named at the final Section meeting of the fiscal year and all Committee members will remain active on the Committee for the full subsequent fiscal year. A committee term will be for one year and committee members can request and be appointed to continue to serve for subsequent years, if appointed by the Executive Board.

Responsibilities to include:

  1. Compile the list of potential nominees according to criteria, which should be evaluated annually by committee members and the YA Section Executive Board. The list must be finalized by the last meeting of the fiscal year, typically in May.
  2. Compile and publish the master list and share with Section members prior to the first meeting of the Section.
  3. Regularly evaluate and update Reader Guidelines.
  4. Evaluate the discussion and selection process of the GSTBA nominations, and make sure that this process is understood and followed by the readers and the membership. Members-at-large and/or the GSTBA Committee Chair will guide discussions at designated YA Section meetings.
  5. Proofread and compile or update current ballot, past winners ballot, and current annotated list of nominations in conjunction with the Members-at-Large.
  6. Coordinate online voting by communicating with the NJLA. Compile final votes.
  7. GSTBA Committee Chair and Members-at-Large are responsible for overseeing the management the GSTBA portion of the NJLA website, including updating necessary information about the awards, promoting the awards, and the announcement of winners.
  8. Update, evaluate, and promote appropriate GSTBA online materials, including tips for promotion.
  9. Promote the awards to schools, libraries and other community organizations, and encourage librarians to participate in reading, voting, and promoting throughout the year.
