WB National Honor Society

Applicants-

You are the people who hold the power in this application for selection process. You are the only ones who have had the ability to control your actions over the past three or four years, and even before that throughout your academic career. The choices you have made and the actions you have taken are a reflection of you and your values. By applying for selection to NHS, you are asking teachers, coaches, and advisors to evaluate your performance in the areas of character, leadership, and service.

NHS Advisor-

The advisor, Mr. Tim Fairfield, helps applicants through the selection process, presents submitted information to the Faculty Council, records all scores and votes cast by the Faculty Council members, and informs applicants of their selection or denied selection to NHS.

Teachers, Coaches, and Advisors-

Teachers, coaches and advisors will evaluate your performance in the areas of character, leadership, and service according to the standards set forth by the National Honor Society organization. Every teacher, coach, and advisor who chooses to participate will have an equal influence in the selection process.

5.  The NHS Advisor will organize all evaluations of each applicant to one document and find the average score for the applicant in the areas of character, leadership, and service. At this point you will have three scores rating from 0-4, rounded to the nearest hundredth and a combined score representing a sum of the three scores, rounded to the nearest hundredth. The combined score could be from 0-12.

6.  To avoid any favoritism, the NHS Advisor will assign numbers to each applicant and his/her corresponding scores to replace names to submit information to the Faculty Council.

7.  The NHS Advisor will rate the applicants in descending order based on their combined total score.

8.  The Faculty Council will meet to find a natural break in the scoring. They will identify the cut-off point and evaluate applicants carefully on the cut-off point. Actual names will not be known at this time. The Faculty Council will be able to look at your application at this point with your name blacked out to see your activities and accomplishments, so please list all of your activities.

9.  The faculty council will vote on all applicants. Each applicant must receive three of the five votes from the faculty council to be selected for membership to National Honor Society. The NHS Advisor does not have a vote in this process except to break a tie vote.
