ATTENDANCE IS COMPULSORY TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS COURSE! If you are absent on any given day then it is your responsibility to find out what you missed and catch up on the notes and work.
INDEPENDENT PRACTICE:
Independent Practice is used to reinforce the concepts worked on in class, and is a critical part of gaining understanding and mastery of the topics being covered in this course. You will be expected to complete all assignments, including the ones from the days when you are ill or away from class in a timely manner. If work assigned is not completed by the due date, students will be assigned mandatory extra help until all missing work is completed and handed in.
All work will be posted on my wikispace (mcreighton1.wikispace.com) as well as sent out via Remind. If you wish to receive the Remind text messages please follow the information below.
ASSESSMENT:
There are 15 outcomes among 6 units. For each outcome students must provide a minimum of 2 pieces of summative evidence that prove they understand the given outcome. The evidence opportunities, such as target questions, written assignments or unit common assessments, will allow students to work at their level of understanding which may be basic, mid or high level. In order for assessment to be as valuable to the student as possible, it will very important for students to get assignments in on time so that the students’ difficulties and strengths can addressed in a timely manner.
EXTRA HELP: Extra help will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon, Additional help is available upon request.
MISSED EVALUATIONS:
You will be expected to write assessments on the day scheduled. If you are absent for an evaluation, you must be prepared to write the make-up evaluation in a timely manner to be discussed with Ms. Creighton on your return. A note is required for all absences to be excused.
TEST CORRECTION POLICY: If you fail a test with a mark below 60%, you will be given the opportunity to make annotated corrections to achieve additional marks. You are able to earn back half of the points that were missed on the test if corrections are completed fully. Corrections must include explanations in complete sentences for all questions and must be handed in within a week of the graded test being handed back. Students are able to receive help in completing corrections from peers, parents, or the teacher but MUST be able to explain their errors on their own.
PLAGIARISM POLICY: Plagiarism occurs when a student presents another person's work as the student's own. Plagiarism includes copying from another student, copying from the textbook, letting someone copy your work, and copying from online sources. This is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. It is important to note that both the person copying and the person providing the work to be copied are equally responsible and will both receive consequences. Should plagiarism be suspected students will be involved in a conversation with the teacher. Once plagiarism is confirmed students will receive consequences as follows:
· First Offence – Students involved will receive a zero on the assignment. However, students will be given an opportunity to re-do the assignment under the supervision of the teacher at lunch.
· Second Offence – Students involved will receive a zero on the assignment.
