Chinese Language Teachers’ Study Tour Program

Department of education confucius institute / www.SCHOOLS.NSW.EDU.AU

Confucius Institute Headquarters, Hanban, has provided the NSW Department of Education (DoE) with 10 professional learning scholarships for Chinese language teachers from DoE schools with Chinese language programs. The scholarships will support successful DoE teachers to attend a teachers’ study tour program in China. Priority will be given to teachers of NSW DoE Confucius Classrooms although all DoE Chinese language teachers are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be permanent DoE teachers with a significant teaching load in Chinese.

This is an excellent professional learning opportunity focusing on effectively teaching and promoting Chinese language teaching and learning, understanding Chinese culture and the maintenance of sister school partnerships.

The study tour will take place in China during the 2016 term 1 school holidays and will consist of workshops, school visits and cultural experiences. It is anticipated that participants will depart from Sydney around Monday 11 April 2016 and return around Wednesday 20 April 2016. Exact dates will be confirmed by early 2016.

Expenses that will be met by Hanban include: domestic transportation in China, food, shared accommodation, tuition and teaching materials. Participants will need to meet the expenses for their international airfare and any other additional costs such as visa applications and travel insurance.

There is the possibility of an additional user-pays cultural trip to one or two cities. The optional cultural trip will be at the expense of the participants. This will be determined based on demand.

If you are interested in participating in this professional learning opportunity, please complete the attached Expression of Interest form and return it to NSW DoE Confucius Institute by COB Friday 30 October 2015.

If you wish to find out more information about this study tour program, please contact Angela Lam, Relieving Confucius Institute Officer, telephone 9266 8941, email:
