Welcome to the summer issue of Angel Hill News.

PHLEBOTOMY SERVICE

Soon after issuing the March Angel Hill News, it was confirmed to us that the Hospital outreach Phlebotomy service was restarting again on 1 April. Therefore, anyone who requires a blood test can now have it done at either the surgery or the hospital.

USING TECHOLOGY IN THE SURGERY

The surgery is constantly looking at ways of making access to the surgery and its services easier for you, both within and outside core surgery hours. Listed below are the current systems available to you for booking an appointment, arranging a repeat prescription and also viewing your medical records

Booking an appointment

Patient Access

This is a software programme that allows you to book and cancel appointments over the internet 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You need to register yourself first and to do this you will need to obtain a user ID and also a temporary password. These are available from Reception. You will need to set it up first, but once done, you can then book a doctors’ appointment via this method. Unfortunately, you cannot book a nurse, physiotherapist or any other healthcare professional appointment by this method.

Automated telephone booking system

This is another programme that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can select to have the first available appointment, or book the next available appointment with a male or female doctor, or indeed the next available with a particular doctor. The appointments that are available on the day, become available from 0600, therefore you can book an on-the day appointment either this way or via Patient Access before the surgery is open.

Repeat prescriptions

Patient Access

Using the same software programme as mentioned in the ‘booking an appointment’ section, it is possible to order a repeat prescription. It will be ready for collection 24 hours after the surgery is next open. Therefore a prescription ordered this way on Friday at 9 p.m. will be available on Tuesday morning and one ordered on Wednesday afternoon will be available Thursday afternoon at the same time.

EMAIL

The surgery has setup an email address that you can now send in your repeat prescriptions on, it is

When sending your email please remember to include your name, address and date of birth and also include what medication you need. These are vital to ensuring you get the correct medication. The same principals apply as above regarding waiting 24 hours after the surgery is open.

Viewing your medical records

During the last 12 months, the NHS has opened up aspects of the medical records held at GP surgeries so that they can be viewed by patients. This is a progressive piece of work that has started looking at Active problems and medications, but in the future it will be expanded. It can only be viewed electronically and must be on request and using a username and password. This surgery uses our Patient Accesssystem to obtainthe information. If you already have patient access and you do not have this facility already, you can request to receive it via Reception and that it is added to your profile. You will need to complete additional paperwork;but you will not receive any new log in details, as they are not required.

Any questions regarding the above, please contact the Reception staff

NAMED DOCTOR

All patients registered at Angel Hill Surgery have been allocated to a named doctor. This does not stop you from seeing any doctor in the surgery. It is to allocate you someone to oversee your care in the surgery and in no way limits the doctor you can see.

If you wish to know who your named doctor is, please ask at your next visit to the surgery.

SUGGESTIONS BOX REPLY

This quarter has seen one patient suggestion entered into the box: It says “no suggestions everything is working well and efficiently”. Thank you for the message of support, but we will not rest on this, but continue to provide the very best service we can within the facilities and capabilities we have.

FRIENDS AND FAMILY TEST

Earlier this year we started to obtain your views on us and if you would recommend us to your friends or family. This was in line with all other GP surgeries. We have completed a review of the first four months data and all respondents reported that they were either extremely likely or likely to recommend us. The information in your statements has been both encouraging and also used to review our practices and we thank you for these.

However, we still very much want to hear your comments and feelings, therefore, please complete the cards in the Waiting rooms or Reception and post in the box in the main waiting room or go on-line at and complete it there. We have also added a link to the new website.

SURGERY WEBSITE

During May we brought on line our new look website. It is still under development. However, it is designed to provide much greater information to you and will have a news section that will be regularly updated. It also provides a link into Patient Access and also enables you to comment on the Friends and Family Test.

LONG-TERM CONDITIONS MANAGEMENT

In April we commenced a programme of changing the management of patients with long-term conditions being managed by our specialist nursing team. The conditions covered under this programme are Diabetes, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Asthma and Cardiac conditions. Except Asthma patients, all patients will be seen initially by our Healthcare Assistant, who will obtain some measurements and also take samples of blood and urine. At this appointment she will make an appointment to see the Lead Nurse 2 weeks later.

In between these appointments, thedoctor and the lead nurse will review the results from the investigations, your other medical conditions and your medication. They will then make an initial plan for you so when you attend your appointment, your medication review will have been completed and will be co-ordinated either for the nurse to undertake a full annual review or the doctor together with the nurse to complete all actions required.
