Two people with different frames of reference can witness the same events and regard them in a very different way. Choose one significant event from the book (the Arab-Israeli War of 1948, Bashir’s return to his childhood home, Bashir’s participation in the bombing of a Jerusalem supermarket in 1969, etc.). Compare and contrast the reaction of Bashir and his family with the reaction of Dalia and her family.
2. At the center of this story is a house. Bashir’s family built the house and fled during a war. Dalia’s family fled Bulgaria and purchased the house. Each has a claim to the house. Each considers it to be theirs. If you had to decide whose house it was, what would you decide? Why?
3. What is the most interesting thing that you learned from reading this book?
