SUGGESTED SPECIFICATIONS

Pump Frames NS3 thru OMC5

GENERAL

Furnish and install Vertical Closed-Shaft Wet-Pit Pumping Units complete with all accessories and appurtenances as shown in the plans and specified herein or as required for a complete operating system. Each Pumping Unit shall be rated for performance in accordance with the operating conditions defined in Table 1 of these specifications. Each unit shall be furnished with pump, motor, floor plate, flexible coupling and guard.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

Qualifications of Manufacturers: The pumps shown and specified are based on the products manufactured by Chicago Pump, Aurora, Illinois. Catalog numbers and references are given only as an indication of the quality of materials and workmanship to be used. Pumps are to be engineered and manufactured under a written Quality Assurance program certified to the ISO 9001:2000 Quality System Standard. The Quality Assurance program is to have been in effect for at least five (5) years and shall include a written record of periodic internal and external audits to confirm compliance with ISO 9001:2000 requirements.

QUALITY CONTROL

The Vertical Wet-Pit Pumping Units shall conform to all applicable requirements of ASTM, ANSI and Hydraulic Institute. For purposes of this specification, the revision and/or version of the referenced standards in effect on the date of public bid opening shall apply.

The Vertical Wet-Pit Pit Pumping Units specified shall be the products of reputable manufacturers who have been regularly engaged in the design, manufacture and furnishing of Wastewater Pumping Equipment for at least ten (10) years. The manufacturer of the pump shall assume full responsibility for compatibility of the supplied components with the application.

PUMP CONSTRUCTION

Pumps shall be solids-handling type and each shall be complete with equipment and accessories as follows:

The pump discharge casing, suction cover, bearing pedestal, discharge elbow and motor pedestal shall be manufactured of close-grained ASTM A-48, Class 30 cast iron material

The impeller shall be manufactured of close-grained ASTM A-48, Class 30 cast iron and dynamically balanced.

The pump shaft shall be machined from high grade alloy steel, turned, ground, and polished. The pump shaft shall be enclosed in a schedule 40 steel hanger pipe and guided by renewable bronze sleeve bearings. Sleeve bearings shall be mounted in flanged cast iron plates. Sleeve bearings shall of the grease lubricated type.

The shaft hanger pipe assembly shall have machined tongue and groove registers through the entire assembly to assure perfect alignment.

The thrust bearing shall be of the ball type, heavy duty, grease relubricable, completely housed in the pump bearing pedestal. The thrust bearing shall be located not less than 10” above the bottom of the pump floor plate.

Impeller wear adjustment shall be provided at the thrust bearing. The adjustment shall be of the micrometer type, so designed to provide adjustment without dismantling any part of the pump or removing the motor.

A suitable packing gland with graphite impregnated braided packing shall be furnished at the pump floor plate where the shaft passes through the floor plate.

The pump discharge shall be equipped with a flexible joint both at the point where the discharge pipe leaves the pump casing and where it terminates at the cast iron 45° screwed fitting at the pump floor plate. The discharge elbow shall be designed and arranged to prevent discharge piping beyond the elbow from imposing or transmitting any pipe strain on the pump shaft column.

A flexible insert type coupling with safety guard shall be provided.

Pumps shall receive one coat of an environmentally safe machinery enamel coating with high solids content.

MOTORS

Each pump shall be driven by a vertical normal thrust solid shaft squirrel cage induction electric motor with a maximum horsepower and speed as specified. The motor shall have a (ODP) (TEFC) (TEXP) enclosure and shall meet all the requirements of NEMA, IEEE and NEC. Motors shall be rated for phase, ______volts, ____hertz electrical service

OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT

A. Bronze Impellers – Impellers shall be bronze and dynamically balanced.

B. Wear Rings (Available only on frames with enclosed type impeller) – Replaceable stainless steel

wear rings shall be furnished.

C.  Stainless Steel Pump Shaft – The pump shaft shall be machined from AISI 416 stainless steel, turned, ground, and polished.

D.  Cutless Rubber Casing Bearing – The pump discharge casing shall be furnished with a cutless rubber bearing with provisions for external clear water flush connection.
(NOTE: Requires the Stainless Steel Pump Shaft option and 4’-0” maximum bearing intervals. Only the pump casing can be furnished with a cutless rubber bearing. Customer to supply clear water flush connection to the lubrication line for this bearing. Intermediate bearing(s) will be standard bronze grease lubricated type with standard Alemite fitted grease lubrication line(s).)

E.  Cast Iron Bearings – The pump discharge casing and intermediate locations shall be furnished with graphite impregnated cast iron sleeve bearings.

F.  Flanged Discharge at Floor Plate – The pump discharge shall be furnished with a 125 lb. companion flange located at the floor plate.

G.  Flanged Discharge Below the Floor Plate – The pump discharge shall be located below the floor plate and shall be equipped with a standard 125 lb. flange.

H.  Two-Section Pump – The pump(s) shall be shipped in two (2) sections divided approximately in halves. The sections shall be designed for field assembly. The pump discharge shall be equipped with a flexible joint where the discharge leaves the pump casing and a fixed connection where it terminates at the floor plate.
(NOTE: All pumps from 15’ length to 30’ will be furnished in two (2) sections. A 4’-0” maximum bearing interval is required on all two-section pumps.

TESTING

The natural frequency of the assembled pump and its supporting structure shall be at least 25 percent higher than the maximum pump excitation frequency. The pump shall operate within the vibration limits of the Hydraulic Institute

The pumps shall be performance tested at the manufacturer’s plant before shipment in accordance with Hydraulic Institute standards. Upon request, certified copies of the test curves shall be submitted to the engineer.

Each pump shall be hydrostatically tested at the manufacturer’s plant before shipment in accordance with Hydraulic Institute standards. Upon request, certified copies of the test results shall be submitted to the engineer.

FIELD SERVICE

____Days of Field Service shall be provided by an authorized, factory trained representative of the Pump Manufacturer. Services shall include, but not necessarily be limited to, inspection of the completed installation to ensure that it has been performed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and recommendations, supervision of all field-testing and activation of the Manufacturer’s Prescribed Warranty.

The Contractor shall be responsible for coordinating the required field services with the Pump Manufacturer.

The sleeve bearings shall be grease relubricable through nylon grease lines terminating with an Alemite fitting at the floor plate. The sleeve bearing spacing shall be at 4’-6” maximum intervals.

The shaft hanger pipe assembly shall have machined tongue and groove registers through the entire assembly to assure perfect alignment.

The thrust bearing shall be of the ball type, heavy duty, grease relubricable, completely housed in the pump bearing pedestal well above the pump floor plate.
