1.ITB 744-R1633 MSB BREEZEWAY LIGHTING RENOVATIONPROSPECTIVE BIDDER’S SUBMITTED QUESTIONS

  • QUESTION 1: Will the work required for this project be allowed to take place during NORMAL business hours? (Monday- Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) If NO; please clarify.

ANSWER 1: Yes, normal hours are ok; however any noisy activity like Hammer drilling will need to be after hours.

  • QUESTION 2: Will the contractor be allowed to utilize a service vehicle in the area of construction with the use of hazard lights, cones and standard caution tape? If NO please clarify the Extent of required Barricades, Access and/or Traffic control.

ANSWER 2: Yes, contractor can utilize a service vehicle in the area with hazard lights, cones and caution tape.

  • QUESTION 3: Has the work area above the existing Plaster ceilings been Abated or proven to be free of Asbestos containing materials?

ANSWER 3: UTHSC is looking into this. If there is any asbestos, it will be abated by UTHSC.

  • QUESTION 4: The light fixtures shown on drawing E201 that are to be mounted on the north and south “outer walls” do not match up exactly where the existing boxes are located. We noted that the fixtures are not laid out an even distance apart and are also not a laid out the same on the north and the south sides. Due to this we would recommend that the fixtures be slightly adjusted from the plans to allow the use of the existing recessed boxes which would move some of the fixtures +/- 2’. This would reduce installation cost and also reduce the amount of exposed conduit required in these areas.

ANSWER 4 –SSA Response - The fixtures should be located as shown on plans. There should be very limited exposed conduit. See response to Question 5 below.

  • QUSTION 5: Due to very limited access to get above the plaster ceiling, please confirm that exposed galvanized rigid conduit can be ran exposed as required to feed new lights.

ANSWER 5: SSA Response - The only exposed rigid conduit should be for the vertical routing from the fixture to above the ceiling. MC cable can then be used above the ceiling.

  • QUESTION 6: Is exposed EMT conduit allowable if it is located above 8’?

ANSWER 6: SSA Response - No, see answer to Question 5.

  • QUESTION 7: Please confirm that patching of plaster ceiling after removal of existing lights is by others.

ANSWER 7: Patching of plaster for any existing or new holes shall be by the UTHSC JOC contractor.
