Softball Field Notes:

PITCHING PLATES & BASES

AA3 and AAA pitch from 35’, Majors from 40’, Juniors from 43’ The League, P&R and umpires are not responsible for installing a proper temporary plate – coaches must check.

Meyer (0619)and GFS (9911)have permanent pitching plates at 43’ (don’t be confused at GFS by the 50’ permanent plate for the men’s adult league). Each field also has a dual base anchor system to accommodate temporary plates at 35’ and 40’. It is easy enough to pace off where they are (they should have bright orange plugs in them that you are responsible for replacing if you move a plate. If they are not there you will have to dig until you find the anchor – easiest way to find them is to pace forward from the permanent 43’. There should be yellow prybars in each lockup that can be used to GENTLY coax the temporary plates up. Keep in mind that if you don’t get all the way under the metal frame that the rubber is attached to, you will rip the rubber off the frame and ruin the rubber. There are clean out tools for the anchors in the lockups.

GFS Bases (9911) – Please note that GFS has two different sets of plugs for base distances. Sixty foot bases for girls softball, and 70 foot bases for men’s softball. Please make sure you are using the 60 foot bases. See above for GFS pitching plates.

THN (0619) has a permanent plate at 40’ and an anchor for 35’ (the plate is in the lockupor may be on the field when you get there. There should be a yellow prybars in the lockup that can be used to GENTLY coax the temporary plates up. Keep in mind that if you don’t get all the way under the metal frame that the rubber is attached to you will rip the rubber off the frame and ruin the rubber. There are clean out tools and plugs for the anchors in the lockup.

THS (0619) has permanent plates at 35’ and 40’ - the 35’ is sunk deeper than the 40’ so you need to look for it.

Coley (0619) only has plate at 40’ so use a throw down or nail in plate for 35’. These also must be handled carefully or they are easily destroyed. We will install an anchor system there soon.

Staples Softball has only a 43’ permanent. AA3 should use a throw down at 35 (pace it off). Kings Hwy and Luciano have only a 35’,Wakeman will have 43’ permanent and an anchor system for 35’ and 40’ when renovations are complete.

SCOREBOARDS – USE THEM! More fun for the girls and the spectator!

Meyer: Can be plugged in and operated from the crows nest, dugout, or with long connection wire from dugout to bleachers. Orange switch in lockup must be turned to UP to turn on scoreboard, and then DOWN to shut off scoreboard when you leave.

THN – Numbers and team names in lockup. THS - Numbers and Home / Visitor in locker behind backstop. If you want team names get them from North lockup. We paid a considerable amount to make these classic old school team name and number tiles and they should exist for all surrounding towns.

GFS – Remote is in lockup in a ziplock with WLLSB on the bag in the same bin as our umpiring equipment - remember to shut off and put away (Remotes cost $350 – you will be charged is you are the last home game there and it disappears.
