Working With Children Check Requirements for Duke of Ed

It is a requirement that all volunteers involved with the Duke of Edinburgh program have a Working With Children Check that has been checked by the school.

Parents helping with expeditions must follow the steps below:

-To obtain a working with children check, go to the Kids Guardian website and follow the steps. You will receive an application number and be directed to take the number with your identification to a Service NSW centre (previously RTA). Once this is processed, you will receive an email with your working with children check number.

A working with children check is free for volunteers.

-Complete the Volunteer Code of Conduct and Appendix 11 forms (forms are on school website in Duke of Ed tab). Note that Duke of Ed volunteers filling out Appendix 11 are not required to submit 100 points of ID.

-The completed forms need to be submitted to the school office (can be via email).

Assessors

Each Duke of Ed participant will have an Assessor for the Service, Skill and Physical Fitness components of their Award. Under the recent changes to the Working With Children Check (WWCC) legislation, as of 31/3/2017 these assessors are considered as volunteers of the school and are therefore subject to Working With Children Check requirements. This applies to the assessors of all participants who are under 18 years of age.

Participants need to complete the following forms which collect Working With Children Check information regarding their assessors:

-Assessor Commencement Guide

-Department of Education Appendix 11 declarationform. Note that Duke of Ed volunteers DO NOT need to provide 100points ID to the school (this is clearly stated on the form).

-NSW Participant Award Plan

These forms must be forwarded to the participant’s level coordinator before any activities are logged for Service, Skill and Physical Fitness.
