Year 1: Provost's Fellowship in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences

2015-2016 Provost's Fellowship Stipend ($2,083.33 per month for 12 months)$25,000.00

2015-2016 Provost’s Fellowship for Resident Fees & Tuition (estimated)$16,102.60

The purpose of the Provost's Fellowships in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences is to enable you to devote full-time to the pursuit of your graduate degree. Therefore, please note: You are not permitted to hold employment during the tenure of this fellowship. Under certain circumstances, however, exceptions may be considered. Should you wish an exception be made, you must make a request in writing and submit a letter of support from your adviser or your graduate program chair.

Year 2: Teaching Assistant Position & Summer Fieldwork Fellowship

2016-2017 50% Teaching Assistant Salary ($1961.66 per month for 9 months)$17,655.00

2016-2017 Summer Fieldwork Fellowship Stipend $5,000.00 2016-2017 Teaching Assistant Partial Remission for Resident Tuition & Fees (estimated) $15,318.00

TOTAL AWARD for 2015-2016$37,973.00

Funding in years 3 through 6 will be provided through 50% Teaching Assistant positions during the nine-month academic year, so long as you maintain employment eligibility and receive satisfactory teaching evaluations. TA positions include a salary (currently$ 1,961.66 per month gross, for 9 months per year) and Tuition & Fee remission at the level noted above. You are also welcome to apply for future fellowship opportunities as they are announced.

In order to be eligible for this award, you must enroll full-time (12 units per quarter), remain in good academic standing, make satisfactory progress each quarter, meet all requirements for employment eligibility, and complete an eligibility checklist each quarter ( Because Tuition & Fees are subject to gubernatorial, legislative and Regental action, adjustments will be made to your award for actual Tuition & Fee amounts. Unused Tuition & Fee awards/remissions will not generate a refund to you. Your billing statement should reflect a credit for your Tuition & Fee award or remission. TA positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreementbetween the University ofCalifornia (UC) and the United Automobile Workers (UAW) Local 2865. An electronic copy of the UC and UAW LOCAL 2865 collective bargaining agreement can be accessed at The collective bargaining agreement between UC and UAW LOCAL 2865 requires that your name and departmental address bereleased to UAW LOCAL 2865. Additionally, state law mandates that employees pay either membership dues or an agency fee to their exclusive representative (unions). UAW LOCAL 2865's membership dues are 1.15% per month of total gross pay and its agency fee is .87% per month of total gross pay.

Graduate students appointment of 25% or greater are entitled to a Student Health Insurance Premium Remission, Educational and Registration Fee Remission, and other applicable benefits as set forth in Article 14 of the collective bargaining agreement. Specific eligibility requirements and percentages of each remission are contained in the collective bargaining agreement.
