Outreach/Fundraising Committee-January 17, 2012 Minutes
In attendance: Dawn Grassfield, Reed Stockman, Jeanette Shoop, Patti Bammert and Jennifer Husmann.
We briefly looked over the action plans and discussed the greeters. We have the greeters lined up for February now.
Dawn let us know what she learned in researching the Wreath sales fundraising idea. 24 inch decorated wreaths would cost us $9.25 and could be sold for up to $15. 36 inch decorated wreaths would cost us $17 and could be sold for $25. Undecorated wreaths are $7.85 and $15. The group thought that we could pre-sell the wreaths at the Holiday Bazaar in October and also through our coalition members each selling them. Then we could order that number plus some extra and sell the extra at the LCC’s Christmas Tree Festival.
Jessica Feldmann spoke with Lisa Diers about the 5K run events she has helped organize. They are a lot of work and many people are doing them now. After going over most of the points Jessica had learned the group decided that we are not ready to put all the work into a 5K event.
Chip Smith had mentioned to Jessica a small fundraising idea of having a camping event at Walnut Acres. We could still have a theme around the event that ties in with our Rx drug logic model campaign idea, “Prescribe the Outdoors”. Chip would donate $9 out of every $10 for each tent who would camp in an area he would reserve for us by Shelter 3. It is a big, rather isolated area of the campground. His offer would be to do this in May before Memorial Weekend. The group thought a Friday night maybe before Mother’s Day could work. This would be an alcohol free fun family event with all ages of kids and teens. We could provide activities and s’mores. People could bring their own food to grill. Chip has a bouncy house and several other fun activities already at the campground. We’d need to pre-register people. The group thought this seemed like a unique and simple way to hit a few of our goals at once: fundraising, family games, coalition relationships, being outdoors, etc. People could also just come for the activities and not necessarily stay over. Campers could be used instead of tents as well, but at more cost.
Jeanette mentioned another simple fundraiser of selling used purses that are donated to the coalition. The Free Clinic is CR does this and makes a lot of money in a short time. We will put out a “feeler” to the coalition e-mail group list to see if people would have good fashionable used purses to donate. We thought we could have them for sale for $5 or $10 during the town garage sale Saturday in mid to late June.
We’ll hear about the “Zumbathon” fundraising idea next time.
Dawn will help with Orientation packets, either at the office or at home. Jennifer is to let the group know when they are ready to be assembled.
The next Outreach/Fundraising meeting will be on Feb. 21 at 4:30 p.m.
