Description:
The LawrenceS. Bloomberg Facultyof NursingProgramprovidesafull-time, two-year,second entry baccalaureatenursingeducation. Given thatnursing isapractice based profession, we believethat clinical experienceisavitaland integralcomponent ofthecurriculum, providingstudents withhands-on opportunitiestopracticetheir nursingskills underdirectsupervisionoftheirpreceptorand indirect supervisionoftheirclinicalinstructor.Theclinical instructor supportsstudentlearning, liaises with the preceptor andclinicalagency, and collaborates withtheFaculty.Theclinical instructorroleisan
essentialand powerfulcomponentof nursing education.
DutiesandResponsibilities:
1. Attend clinical instructororientationforNUR461.
2. Attend andassistwithPrimaryCareskillslabfor theirclinicalgroup intheSimulationLab.
3. Supportstudentlearning:a)Teach - attendweeklyclassand lead "clinical discussion";b)
Monitorstudent performance- reviewandofferfeedback ofstudentlearningobjectives; reviewanddiscussstudentmidterm self-assessments;assessstudentprogressand completefinal studentevaluations;ensure ongoingcommunicationwith students, preceptors andcoursefaculty.
4. Prepareforand attend,assist andco-facilitatetheEmergencyPreparedness Simulation.
5. CollaboratewithCourse Faculty:Schedule andconductsitevisitsatthebeginning andend of term;conductmidtermdiscussionwithclinical preceptorand students;utilizetelephone calls,emails andvisitsthroughoutthetermasneededtodealwith studentclinical placementissues.
Qualifications:
1. Professional nursing experienceincommunityhealthruraland/orunderserved settings.
2. Currentregistration with theCollegeof NursesofOntarioasaRegisteredNurseor
Registered Nurseinthe Extended Class.
3. Current membership intheRegistered NursesAssociationof Ontario (RNAO)ispreferred.
4. Master's degreeinNursingorequivalentispreferred;BScNisrequired.
5. Previous teachingexperiencewillbeconsidered anasset.
6. Excellentwrittenandoral communicationand analytical skills.
