Calibration Procedures Using
PSG-5042 Calibration Head
Mini 2-Component Proportioner
Calibration:
This is a very special system and is automatically operated. Please read all the directions and call the manufacturer at
901-388-0168 if there are any questions or concerns.
Step#1 Read all of the manuals that are included with your system before attempting to operate the pumping system.
Follow all directions in this guide completely. If you are unsure about any portion of this guide, call us for assistance.
Step #2 Wear proper safety gear including safety glasses, gloves, respirator and suitable clothing.
Step #3 The System contains 2 pumps, one of which is driven by the other. The driven pump, depending on where it is placed along the arm, has the ability to pump from the same to about a fifth of the other pump. Because these types of pumps pump purely by volume and because of the differences in the specific gravities of the resin and hardener, the slave arm must be calibrated using the following method.
Step #4 Make sure that all of the pumps have been primed and are free of air. If during the calibration phase you notice air or spitting, you will need to re-prime the pumps in order to get an accurate delivery from the pumps.
Turn the Pump Air Regulator to 20 psi.
Attach the Calibration head to the front of the gun by replacing the existing RTM head. Be sure to keep the Mixing adapter in place so that the head will not leak.
Pre-weigh two containers to catch the two dispensed fluids and place them under the outlets of the two calibration tubes.
Ensure that the tubes are held tightly in position and that you are aware of a potential splash hazard.
Preset the slave arm to the position…..
Indicated along the adjustment side of the pump arm that you would like to check. For example, if you want a 50% by volume catalyst percentage, move the indicator to 2 on the arm. (Be sure to record the exact position of the pointer on the arm.) The numbers along the arm are ratio numbers ie. 1=1:1 3=3:1.
Ensure that the fittings on the end of the gun are tight in order to keep the hoses from coming off when under pressure.
Operate the gun by allowing the float valve to move into the downward position.
The pumps will begin to cycle and begin dispensing resin into your pre-positioned buckets. Collect a large enough sample in each bucket to eliminate any variations. The larger the sample, the more accurate the calibration will be.
Weigh each bucket and its contents (be sure to subtract the weight of the bucket). Divide the weight of the smaller volume by the weight of the larger volume and this will give you the weight percentage that corresponds to the scale on the slave arm. If you run this operation on all of the numbered positions of the slave arm, you can make a weight percent graph for your specific materials. This will allow you to rapidly change the position and know what affect it will have on the catalyst percentage. Please remember that if you change resins to a different specific gravity, you will have to recalibrate the system.
Once you have finished calibrating the equipment, be sure to shut off the gun, kill the air pressure to the system, and clean up any spills that might have occurred. Please dispose of any mixed materials according to regulations.
