Teaching Expectations

Lesson Plan

Expectation: Be respectful to others, yourself, and the environment

Definition
Treating others and your surroundings in the same manner you would like to be treated.
Rationale for having the Expectation
Treating others with respect is the pillar for a nurturing and supportive school environment. Respect is an attitude. If we foster this attitude in our school, it will surely be a nicer place to be at.
Positive Examples: “Looks Like” / Non-examples
Use appropriate language and polite manners while you transition throughout the school / Pushing and shoving other students in the hallways
Valuing and being sensitive of other people’s opinions / Making racists or prejudiced remarks
Following adult directives when asked / Refusing to complete classwork/assignments
Moving from class to class in an organized fashion / Excessive noise and horseplay in the hallways
What resources (websites, curriculum, programs, etc.) will you use to teach this Lesson Plan?
-  During the first week of school we will have students that are in Student Government present skits to portray examples and non-examples of respectful behaviors.
-  Throughout the year students will also create ad campaigns that promote respect of individual differences and sensitivity towards others – ad campaigns will be posted on D2L.
Specific steps of Lesson Plan (Include lesson format, activities, and details):
Ø  Staff will review the Positive Behavior Plan Matrix and preview skits created by students.
Ø  Students will be lead in discussions about respecting others’ differences in opinions, values, and cultures (classes that will offer these discussions are: 9th grade: Debate – 10th Grade: English – 11th Grade: English)
Students will create ad campaigns (posters, etc.) that depict positive examples of valuing and respecting others.
