DENVER BRONCOSQUOTES (11/29/17)

RUNNING BACK C.J. ANDERSON

On facing Miami Dolphins Head Coach Adam Gase

“‘Goose’ that’s my dude. We text a little bit throughout the season. He’s highly upset with some things. Both teams are struggling. What better way to turn it around then to beat ‘Goose’ through bragging rights.”

On Gasecalling players out

“I just think he’s trying to hold that player accountable. That’s the type of guy Goose is, super competitive. When he does things like that he tries to hold you accountable so you can get in your book or pretty much know what’s going on and what he’s doing. Sometimes us as players, we forget to understand that these coaches stay here late nights and some sleep in their offices. ‘Goose’ is definitely one of those guys that I know who’s there just like our coaches here. They’re here 6-6:30 in the morning and don’t leave until 10:30-11 at night. They’re not putting a gameplan together to think it’s not going to work, so just follow directions. That’s how I look at it.”

On what Gase has said to him that’s made him a better player

“‘Goose’ doesn’t hold back. I think the biggest thing is he knows what button to push to get the full competitiveness out of you. He knew to get the full potential. The chubby comment was one of them. He went there and I thought that was hilarious even though I came off of a good year that year. There are times it was just, ‘C.J. you’re slow.’ Right in the meeting, ‘You’re just slow. You don’t break enough tackles.’ Things of that nature. He knows what to do for that certain player to push the right button. He did it with ‘18’ (Peyton Manning) too, so it’s pretty cool.”

On whether he’s disappointed with the number of carries he received last game

“I only can control what I can control and when 22s in the game I’m going to control that. It’s not a question for me. Am I disappointed about it? Obviously you know our coaches fully believe they’re trying to do the best thing for us to win and I’m on board with that.I’m a team guy. Whether that’s [RB Devontae] Booker or [RB] Jamaal [Charles]—just like when I thought Booker scored, I was out there celebrating and that’s just what it is. That’s what it is in our room, we’re super, super selfless in our room. That’s what it is.”

On the team wanting to win for Head Coach Vance Joseph

“It’s tough. We’re just not doing things as a team consistently right now to string together a win for Vance. Not only is it just that ‘V.J.’ is a good guy, he’s a great coach and he’s going to be a hell of a head coach. He says the right things, he believes the right things and puts us in the right positions. We’re just not doing things consistently as a team, starting with myself. We just have to figure out why.”

On whether he thinks ‘what if’ about playing in Miami

“No. I was here. This is my home. This is my home hopefully for the next two years. We’ll see it that way. There’s no difference in the systems. I know Gase’s. We brought [former Offensive Coordinator Mike] McCoy over here now. Having [Offensive Coordinator] Billy [Musgrave], the system hasn’t changed too much. I still get to flourish in this system with the proper execution and the things of that nature.”

On his ‘My Cause My Cleats’ shoes

“I’m going to wear some white cleats with five different ribbons: breast cancer for my god-mom, lymphoma for Peter Schaffer’s daughter, brain cancer for my guy Trevor (Kling) and stomach cancer for my Uncle Mike. Those will be the ribbons that will be on my shoe. I just wanted to bring awareness. It’s good that us as players get the opportunity to express somethings because a lot of people don’t think we’re human. They just think that we go out there and play football.”

On whether he is confident with QB Trevor Siemian starting

“I was confident with No. 17 (QB Brock Osweiler) just like I was confident with No. 12 (QB Paxton Lynch). We just have to win. Let’s be confident that we’re going to win a football game. Let’s look at it that way.”

On the team fighting late in games

“I think we fight super late in the game and it might be like, ‘Man, if we would have just had that fight a couple plays ago.’ It’s always one play. If we would have just made this play or made that play. If [QB] Paxton [Lynch] throws the ball two inches further, ‘Book’ is catching it and falls in the end zone. Simple things like that where it’s like—with the Raiders first interception, [Oakland Raiders Linebacker NaVorro] Bowman is on his back. The football God’s definitely weren’t on our side on the one-yard line so far this year.”

On themoodin the locker room

“We come to work. We put our work in. We put our chips on the table. We go out and expect results but we don’t get them. For us as players, it’s tough. In the front of our—before you walk in the locker room, there’s a collage of pictures and the score. That Oakland collage has been up there since Week 4. That’s something that we see every day. No disrespect to you guys or anybody else out there, but we lose, everybody is mad and then you move on with your life. We have to come in here and see this every day. Hopefully, we can put up a new collage of pictures with a winning score against the Dolphins.”

On whether the offense adjusted well to Musgrave’s play calls

“I think so. Last week, we got going [later]. Coach Musgrave is on [the quarterback], too. He has to get in the rhythm. I think he was trying to feel us out. Being a coordinator and then working with the quarterbacks is completely different. You have all of us instead of his room. I think we’ll be fine this week.”
