2013 Summer Conference Policies

Group Reservations

Conference groups may use the WPEC for their recreational use. However, if your group plans to use the WPEC or has time built in to the conference program for organized recreational activity, you must make a request at least one week in advance to schedule use of specific spaces. Reservation priority will be given to internal Emory camps and those external camps whose purposes are based on facility use. Use of most WPEC facilities is offered at no additional charge except all pool usage, which requires payment for lifeguard fees. There may also be occasional miscellaneous charges for other facility usage depending on times and specific activity.

Individual Recreational Use

Individuals may use the WPEC during normal operating hours upon presentation of their Conference Guest Pass. Individuals will be denied access if they cannot present their Guest Pass for entry. Individuals may work out in areas that are available. However, any individual under the age of 18 years old must be accompanied by camp staff at all times in the WPEC.

General Policies:

Children under the age of 14 years old are not allowed in the weight room at any time and are not permitted to

use weight equipment or exercise equipment.

Adult leaders must be easily identified by the WPEC staff and must actively supervise their conference

participants, regardless of age, at all times.

  • Campers between the ages of 14 and 17 must be accompanied by a camp staff member when in the WPEC. Unsupervised campers may be asked to leave the facility.

Operating Policies:

The following items are not permitted in the WPEC:

Black-soled running shoes and waffle-soled shoes in the arena,on racquetball court floors, or on tennis courts.

Alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, glass containers, bikes, skateboards, scooters, rollerblades, motorized vehicles and pets (these policies also apply to outdoor athletic facilities).

Pool Policies:

Conference groups must make a reservation at least one week in advance to use the pool. A fee will be assessed for pool rental and lifeguards.

  • Conference groups and individuals are restricted from entering the pool during WPEC members’ lap swim times.
  • Pool rental is $50.00 per hour for conference groups between the hours of 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Weekend times may be available, depending upon requested times.
  • Requests for swim times outside of these hours will be given consideration if pool and staffing are available. Pool rental fee for times outside of this will be a minimum of $100.00 per hour (2 guards) up to $300.00 per hour (6 guards). Number of guards is dictated by number of swimmers in the group.
  • All pool requests must be made at least one week in advance in order to receive consideration. Requests are not final until approval has been given by WPEC staff.

An adult leader or leaders from the conference must be on the pool deck at all times while participants are in the pool. The adult leaders must identify themselves to the lifeguard at the beginning of each pool session and assist the guard(s) in actively enforcing safe behaviors.

  • Groups that do not meet the requirement of having adult conference leaders on deck while they swim will be denied subsequent pool access.

Individuals not adhering to established policies may be asked to leave and/or have their privileges revoked. Any accidents or injuries must be reported to the Building Supervisor by contacting the Equipment Room, located on the bottom level of the PE Center, or by calling 404 727 5614.
