2014 Women of Wonder FAQs

Does this event benefit a non-profit?

·  Yes. This year’s 2014 event benefits the Seattle based Team Survivor Northwest 501-c-3 non-profit. Team Survivor Northwest offers a variety of fitness and health programs to women with a past or present diagnosis of cancer. You can learn more about their organization at www.teamsurvivornw.org.

Where do I pick up my race number, timing chip, shirt, etc?

·  There is an optional one-day packet pickup event on Saturday, September 6th that takes place at the Super Jock n Jill running store near Green Lake. The packet pickup that day is from 10am to 5pm.

·  You may also pick up your packet at the event on Sunday between 8:00am and 9:30am. The day-of-race packet pickup will likely be crowded so please arrive early.

Can other people pick up my race packet at the Super Jock n Jill event?

·  Yes. Being that it is a one day event that we realize some people cannot get to, we do allow friends and/or family members to pick up your race packet.

What is the day-of-event schedule?

8:00am – The race day packet pickup and registration tent opens

9:00am – Jasyoga leads a free 15 minute pre-race yoga session

9:00am – The wine and mimosa garden opens

9:10am – PCC Healthy Kids Little Wonders Run (kids dash) starts

9:30am – Both the 5K and 10K events start

10:45am – Awards Ceremony starts

Noon – The wine and mimosa garden closes and the event ends

Where should I park for the event on Sunday?

·  There are four main parking lots at Green Lake Park that you can park at. Some are closer to the event site than the others. Since the event takes place on Sunday, there is also free street parking located nearby. We still encourage that you carpool to the event if possible.

What time and where does the 5K and 10K events start?

·  Both the 10K & 5K will start together at 9:30am. Please be near the start line at 9:20am in prep. The start line is located on the grass just east of the finish line festival area near the Green Lake Community Center.

Are the 5K and 10K events timed?

·  Yes. Both the 5K and 10K events are timed. If you know for sure that you do not want to be timed, please give your timing chip back to the volunteers at the day-of-race packet pickup area.

Where & When is the Kid’s Dash?

·  The free kid’s dash will take place near the main start/finish line at 9:10am. It is called the PCC Healthy Kids Little Wonders Run. Boys and girls 10 & under can run in it. Parents should complete an entry form for each participating child. Entry forms are available on the event website and at the day-of-race registration area. Each child will receive a bib number, a participant ribbon and a special treat from PCC Natural Markets. Special kids dash shirts cost $10 each and are available at the registration tents.

Is there an ATM near the venue site?

·  Yes. There is an ATM located next to Spuds. There is also one at the Key Bank located behind Gregg’s Cycles.

Is there is a bag check? How does it work?

·  Yes. The gear/bag check tent is located in the finish line festival area near the registration and packet pickup area – Volunteers will give you a bag for you to place your items in. You will need to write your bib number on it prior to the volunteers taking it for storage. Please note that we are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Do we get a finishers medal?

·  Everyone who completes either the 5K run/walk or the 10K run/walk will receive a finisher medal inside the finish line chute. You must complete the event to receive a finisher medal.

Is there free coffee?

·  Yes. Callie’s Coffee will be providing free coffee via their coffee truck onsite in the finish line festival area.

Where are the chocolate brownies?

·  The chocolate brownies are just for the event participants. Each 5K and 10K participant will receive one chocolate brownie in the finish line chute area. There are only enough for one brownie per person so please be considerate and only take one. PCC Natural Markets has graciously made and donated the brownies.

I heard there is a free onsite yoga session. Where and when will that take place?

·  The free onsite yoga session will take place at 9:00am in the grass field located between the registration tents and the playground. It will last for 15 minutes and it will be led by Jasyoga, Seattle’s “mobile yoga for athletes” yoga studio. If you participate in the yoga session, you will need to sign the Jasyoga waiver just prior to the session.

What about the wine & mimosa garden?

·  The wine & mimosa garden will be located at the east most end of the finish line festival near the road. It opens at 9:00am and closes sometime around Noon. We will be selling wine & mimosa (and we may even have beer). You will need to show your I.D. proving that you are 21 or over to enter. Bring cash.

Where do I find/get my Women of Wonder temporary tattoo?

·  We will be giving away free Women of Wonder temporary tattoos onsite at a table located near the “columns” stage within the finish line festival area. The tattoos will also be available at the packet pickup that takes place at Super Jock n Jill on Saturday.

Where can I find a course map?

·  A course map is posted on the event website. Course maps will also be posted at the event near the registration tents.

Is there an on-course water station?

·  Yes. It is located on the other side of the lake near the Aqua Theatre grandstands. It will be accessible to both the 5K and 10K participants on the first loop and then again for the 10K participants on their second loop. When approaching the water station, please grab your cup of water and then continue to run or walk past the water station prior to drinking the water. Drinking the water right in front of the water station crowds the area and makes it hard for other participants to get to the water.

Are dogs and strollers allowed in the 5K and 10K events?

·  Yes. We do allow registrants to participate with leashed dogs or strollers. Preferably not both. For both, please be considerate of those around you especially at the start. For participants with dogs, please keep them on a short leash.

What’s with the two turkeys?

·  We have two people dressed up in turkey costumes. They are handing out brochures for the upcoming Green Lake Gobble 10K/5K & Mashed Potato Munch Off that will take place at Green Lake Park on Sunday, November 23rd. If you’re looking for another fun Green Lake run/walk to do, this event is the one we recommend!

Where is the first aid station?

·  There is a medical tent located near the finish line. The event will also have an EMT on a bicycle roaming the course. If you get injured on the course, please let one of the course monitors who have an event radio know. They will advise the bike EMT. Please call 9-1-1 for any life threatening injury.

Where & when are the awards handed out?

·  Awards will be handed out starting at 10:30am at the Awards Tent located in the finish line festival area. Both the overall winners and the age category winners will be given awards. The age categories are 10 year increments.

When/Where will the results be posted?

·  The results will be uploaded to the event website throughout the morning. You can get access to them via the www.promotionevents.com website.

I think my time is wrong in the results, what do I do?

Will there be an onsite photographer taking pictures?

·  This information is pending.

What about the Women of Wonder Photo Wall?

·  We will have a Women of Wonder themed photo wall at the event for you to use as back drop for photo taking. It will be a great place for you to take team photos. Post them online using the #wowseattle tag.

Where are the bathrooms?

·  All of the sanikans for the event are located just east of the venue near the softball field. Before 9:30am, there will be a path through the finish line flagging that will provide a short cut to get to and from them. During the run/walk, the short cut will be closed off and you will have to walk around the start/finish line area.

Can I exchange my shirt for a different size?

·  This depends on if any shirts in your size remain. Shirts may be exchanged for a different size after the event at the registration area.

Can I purchase an additional event shirt?

·  Extra shirts will not be for sale until after the event. Please see the online shirt store linked to www.promotionevents.com if you would like to purchase a shirt.

My sister/brother/mom wasn’t able to be here today – can they get a refund? Can I pick up their shirt?

·  There are no refunds for anyone who pre-registered for the event. However, with proof of identity a sibling or spouse may pick up their participant shirt at the pre-registered packet pickup area located next to the registration tables. The packet pickup area has a list of all the people who pre-registered. The name of the sister/brother/mom/etc must be on that list.

I think I won an award, where do I pick it up?

·  Overall winners and age category winners may pick up their awards at the Info & Awards Tent located in the finish line festival area. All age category awards will be available for pick up at Super Jock n Jill one week after the event. Please call Pro-Motion Events at 206-729-9972 if you have any questions.

Is there a lost & found?

·  Yes – It is located at the Info & Awards Tent located within the finish line festival area.
