The work meeting of the Helper City Planning and Zoning Commission was called to order by Chairman Paluso at 7:05 p.m.

DISCUSSION ON CHANGES TO SIGN ORDINANCE CHAPTER 11-8.

Chairman Paluso reported that Marsha Ellington wants to put a sign on her building for her Marsha’s Sammich Shop business. The ordinance states a sign can’t be more than 25% of the sidewalk. Chairman Paluso would like to request to change the ordinance to allow larger signs. Commission Member Tom Hatt is contracted to do the sign for Marsha Ellington and said that only 2 signs on Main Street meet the current requirements. Commission members all agreed they would like to see the ordinance changed allow 75% of the sidewalk. A Public Hearing will be held on March 16, 2016 to discuss the recommended change to Projecting Signs 11-8 page12.

DISCUSSION ON ORDINANCE CHANGES FOR STORAGE/CARGO UNITS.

Chairman Paluso informed the Commission on an application submitted from Ralph Hunter wanting to put a 40’ X 8’ cargo storage unit on his property. Chairman Paluso reviewed and approved the application with the special conditions that would have Mr. Hunter comply with the ordinance requiring him to completely enclose the unit. Chairman Paluso requested a discussion on possible changes to the current ordinance. The Commission was concerned with storage/cargo units being put on residential lots and what it would do to the looks of the city. The ordinance will stay the same so there would be more control on what people are putting on their property. All commission members were in favor of not changing the current ordinance.

I here by certify that the foregoing represents a true, accurate and complete record of the Helper City Planning and Zoning Commission work meeting held on Monday, February 29, 2016.
