POSITION PURPOSE

The purpose of this role is to provide practice leadership and direction at the Children’s Team site across the children’s workforce working within the Children’s Team approach. This includes leading the development and implementation of new practices and ways of working; promoting quality practice, continuous improvement and learning; monitoring international and national trends in research.
The role of Practice Advisor – Children’s Teams is to drive quality practice across the Children’s Team and the wider workforce engaging in this approach. This includes building the capability of Lead Professionals and Child Action Network members through the provision of learning and development opportunities, informed practice guidance and working collaboratively with the Home Agencies to provide support to ensure consistency, quality and safety in working within the approach.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Practice Analysis and Advice / -  Provide up to date and high quality and advice on professional practice to the Children’s Team Director
-  Provide practice guidance and support to Lead Professionals and Child Action Network members.
Professional Leadership / -  Take a leading role in raising the profile of excellent practice within the region
-  Contribute to development of new practice and policy initiatives
-  Facilitate and champion the introduction of new practice initiatives
-  Develop links with Professional Development/Workforce Capability to ensure that training and professional development meet regional and individual needs
-  Provide consultancy service and support for the promotion of practice excellence.
Capability Building / -  Support Children’s Team Directors to have a sustainable learning and capability building programme to support the operation of the team
-  Support Lead Professionals and Child Action Network members to develop their skills to deliver services to vulnerable children
-  Develop tools and guidance that support the development of practice within Lead Professionals and Child Action Network members
-  Work collaboratively with Home Agencies to identify opportunities for capability development.
Being part of the Oranga Tamariki team / -  Actively and positively participate as a member of the team
-  Proactively look for opportunities to improve Oranga Tamariki’s operations
-  Perform any other duties as needed by Oranga Tamariki
-  Comply with and support all health and safety policies, guidelines and initiatives
-  Ensure all incidents, injuries and near misses are reported into our H&S reporting tool
-  Comply with all legislative and regulatory requirements, and report any breaches as soon as they become known
-  Adhere to all Oranga Tamariki’s procedures, policies, guidelines, and standards of integrity and conduct
-  Commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and respect and incorporate these into your work.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Qualifications / -  A relevant tertiary qualification in social, health or education disciplines with specialty focus on child and family wellbeing or the ability to demonstrate extensive relevant experience and record of service delivery
-  A clean, current driver’s licence is essential.
Experience / -  Senior leadership experience in the health and/or social service sector
-  A working knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi and its application in the health and social service sector
-  Credibility with Health, Educational and social sector leaders and in Government
-  Ability to facilitate the resolution of complex problems
-  Experience in delivery of services to vulnerable children and families.
Skills / -  Excellent interpersonal communication skills
-  High level of self-motivation, judgement, objectivity and integrity
-  Ability to conceptualise and think creatively, and to understand and discuss issues from either a policy, operational or reporting viewpoint
-  Experience in and demonstrated ability to use influence to improve practice
-  Demonstrated commitment to the knowledge base underpinning Oranga Tamariki’s practice (the practice framework and core competency framework) and the ability to communicate this effectively to others
-  Demonstrated ability to work in collaborative peer and other stakeholder relationships
-  A high level of intellectual and analytical ability, and capacity to work with an interdisciplinary perspective
-  Ability to use skills and influence to produce effective outcomes.

-  Holds current clean driver’s licence and is prepared to drive the Ministry’s vehicles if required.
