Book Aid International’s vision is of vibrant libraries that inspirereaders and empower communities.

Our mission is to work in partnership with libraries in sub-Saharan Africa providing books, resources and training to support an environment in which reading for pleasure, study and lifelong learning can flourish.

In 2015 we provided 1.12 million books to 2,624 libraries in 11 countries in sub-Saharan Africa and a small programme in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, reaching an estimated 24,000,000 beneficiaries. We trained over 500 Librarians and Teacher Librarians.

Book Aid International is looking to develop and expand our corporate fundraising programme which has current income target of c. £150,000 from a wide range of corporate partners and supporters.

Book Aid International employs 22 staff, mostly based in its South London office and warehouse with one staff member based in Nairobi. We work with over 50 partners in sub-Saharan Africa to deliver our work.

Role

The Corporate Fundraising Manager will manage the Corporate Fundraising programme, reporting to the Head of Fundraising and Communications and supported by senior staff and Trustees as necessary, and with the assistance of the Fundraising Officer (one day p/week support time, with no line management responsibilities).

The Corporate Fundraising Manager is responsible for project managing an existing portfolio of donors. The role will have responsibility for developing and carrying out a strategy of ambitious growth over the next three year strategic period by identifying and engaging new potential donors, and particularly establishing longer term and multi-year partnerships. There is a current income target of c. £150,000 with high expectations of growth.

The role is located in our offices in Camberwell, South London, with some potential for short-term travel in our partner countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

Responsibilities

Maintaining and developing our corporate fundraising programme through:

  • Managing the existing programme and pipeline of corporate supporters
  • Developing and delivering a strategy for increasing income in line with growth plans over the next three-year strategic period
  • Supporting the Major Donor Manager to deliver high quality cultivation events to benefit corporate relationships
  • Supporting the Fundraising Officer to develop and maintain lower level corporate supporters and partnerships
  • Any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of Fundraising & Communications

Educated to degree level or equivalent / Fundraising or marketing qualifications
Experience
Experience of raising significant donations from corporate sources and corporate partnerships OR experience working in a corporate marketing or CSR environment (particularly publishing) / Events management experience
Demonstrable experience in developing corporate fundraising programmes / Experience and existing contacts within international companies working within our countries of operation
Experience of travelling in developing countries
Knowledge
Knowledge of key issues in UK major giving environment / Understanding of international development issues
Understanding of the UK publishing industry
