WRITING SAMPLE

The following questions and scenarios are used to give the evaluation team more insight into you as a candidate.

Why did you choose to enter the field of education? Detail challenges and rewards you are anticipating.

If your Lateral Entry Specialist comes to your classroom for a coaching visit and gives you feedback that you disagree with, how would you respond?

For various reasons, you are not getting the support that you need from your mentor. How would you go about getting the help that you need?

It’s Thursday night. You have 10 parent emails to respond to, tests to grade, and your principal has asked you for classroom data. In addition, your GCS-ACT assignment is due on Saturday. How would you handle meeting these deadlines?

If you are in a department meeting and a veteran teacher continuously challenges your ideas since you are a lateral entry teacher, what strategies will you employ to ensure a positive working environment?

How many years are you willing to commit to a high need school? To the education profession? Explain.

Explain your level of commitment to the GCS-ACT program. Why do you feel this is the best option for your professional development?
