“Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure” Fundraiser

When: September 20, 2013 – November 1, 2013

What: Melillo MS will have 4 activities:

Relaxed Dress Days; Monster Mash; Principals’ Challenge; and Homeroom Challenge

See the back of this flyer for more specifics.

How: During lunch, students may purchase wristbands to participate in the different activities.

During homeroom, students may donate money for the Homeroom Challenge.

Why: The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Foundation raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.

Our school is named after Dr. Dixie Melillo, who is the founder of The Rose, which is a non-profit breast cancer organization providing mammography screening, diagnosis, early access to treatment and support to all women regardless of their ability to pay.

SPECIFIC GUIDELINES FOR RELAXED DRESS DAYS:

·  A new wristband must be purchased every week for each date the student wishes to participate.

·  The wristband must be worn all day.

·  Lost wristbands will NOT be replaced. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure it does not get lost or misplaced. This will NOT be a valid excuse.

·  Students should bring a dress code shirt in their backpack in case the chosen shirt is deemed inappropriate for school.

·  Students may wear any style of shirt with sleeves, including T-shirts and jerseys with sleeves.

·  Shirts must cover the waistline, but do not need to be tucked in.

·  Shirts may not have skulls, weapons, gang-related items, inappropriate advertisements or comments.

·  Shirts may not have spaghetti straps.

·  Shorts may be of any kind as long as the length is to the top of the knee while standing and the shorts are not tight fitting.

·  NO PAJAMAS are allowed.

·  As long as students follow the guidelines for the Relaxed Dress Days, we will continue this fundraiser activity each week. However, if this is not the case, then the administrators will stop the fundraiser prior to the end of the month.

Help support our school in raising money for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Foundation this October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
