Doubles Information/ Rules

  1. USTA Rules from “The Code” shall prevail.
  2. Matches are best two of three sets with regular scoring and set tiebreak at 6-6. (first team to 7 points, win by 2 points) If a 3rd set is needed, it should be played. If both teams agree, the 3rd match can be played as a match tiebreak. (first team to 10 points, win by 2 points) This needs to be determined before the match starts.
  3. A team’s win/loss record will be used to determine league standings. In the event of a tie, the rules set forth by the USTA will be used to determine a league champion.
  4. Turn scores into the staff person at the end of your match or email them to with the following format.
  1. Put in the subject line: 4.0 Men’s Doubles Week 5
  2. In the body put your scores such as: Winner’s name def Loser’s name, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 10-8

You can also text your info to 605-351-1631 or 605-366-9852. The deadline for reporting all matches is the Monday after each match played.

  1. Matches will be played at designated time, date and location (with the exception of weather cancellations…see #7). If you are unable to play at your scheduled time, please arrange for a sub. Subs do not have to be from the list but they should be of the same level as your league or games will not count toward final league standings. Only after every attempt has been made to find a sub please phone Lydia Healy (605-351-1631) and she will try to help you.
  2. McKennan, Kuehn and Augustana courts will be used for league play with a scheduled staff person.
  3. In the event of inclement weather, the staff person will make a ruling regarding delays or cancellation or an advanced notice via e-mail will be sent by the league coordinator. Thursday nights are scheduled for make-up nights due to bad weather. Plan to play on that Thursday night or call your opponents to reschedule the match.
  4. Balls and score sheets will be provided on the night your league match is scheduled.
  5. Please give the benefit of the doubt to your opponent for all line calls. Only call the lines on your side of the net. When in doubt, it is in!
  6. Please respect your partner and opponents by showing up on time. Beyond 20 minutes tardy is a forfeit. Limit your displays of frustration or cursing, as these are public facilities. Also, please do not bring unattended children to league matches.

Singles Information/Rules

  1. This is a free schedule league. Schedule a match with your partner for that week. Do not wait for your opponent to call you. Matches may be played out of order if necessary for vacations, etc. Singles matches are self schedules; however, they must be played within 2 weeks of your given week. The person who has not returned calls during your scheduled week to arrange play that person forfeits. You have 2 weeks to schedule your singles match. The same forfeit will happen if you no show for a scheduled match.
  2. Players provide their own balls. Each player shall bring a can of balls and a spin of the racket will decide which balls are used.
  3. Matches are two sets with a match tiebreak for the third set if needed. (first player to 10 points, win by 2) Set tiebreaks are at 6-6. (first player to 7 points, win by 2)
  4. Reports scores to with the following format:
  1. Put in the subject line: 4.0 Men’s Singles Week 5
  2. In the body put your scores as such:

Winner’s name def Loser’s name, 6-4, 6-7 (4),

10-8.

Scores need to be submitted no later than the Monday after your match.
