Literature Group 1 – NATIONAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE BENCHMARK PROJECT – Dr. Khan

Dr. Khan presented her findings of the data contained in the documents of literature group one and distributed a handout to SPC members.

The following was discussed:

  1. Withdrawal survey form should contain the question, “Why are you withdrawing?”
  2. Can the withdrawal survey be automated?
  3. We need to know more about our students to see what they need to meet their goals.
  4. The Middle States document recommended training for our faculty in the area of advising and to get students to use the services of advising.

The Strategic Planning Council Sub-committee drafted goals for the next Strategic Plan through 2011. Middle States wants to see a distinction between strategic planning goals and institutional goals.

Dr. Canniff suggested that the wording, “pursuit of academic excellence” should be added to enduring goals.

Do we need Student Success and Student Development as separate items?

The Institutional Goals are taken from the Mission and Vision statements.

Dr. Attinasi and Dr. Jacobs discussed the formation of goals and objectives and administered an exercise to demonstrate the difference.
