WINK LOVING ISD CHILD NUTRITION

Cafeteria Policy & Procedures

2016-2017

SCHOOL BREAKFAST & LUNCH OFFERED DAILY

Here at Wink-Loving ISD our goal is for every child to have access to a nutritionally balanced breakfast and lunch served daily in the school cafeteria. All meals served meet the USDA standards for schools, and are federally subsidized and therefore affordable.

We must feed the body to feed the mind; a hungry child cannot learn!

STUDENT LUNCH ACCOUNTS – ID Numbers are assigned to all students and remain the same each year and are located on each students ID badge. All new students are assigned an ID number and will use that number to access their account.

STUDENT MEALS SHOULD BE PAID IN ADVANCE OR ON A DAILY BASIS

Administrative Policy on Charging Meals

  • To insure that no child goes hungry, charging of meals may be allowed in the case of lost or forgotten lunch money.

Parent Notification of Charges:

  • Parents will be notified by the district through an automated telephone system and email when their child owes money. Occasionally, a printed reminder will be sent home through the mail. Students will also be reminded to bring lunch money while in the serving line if their account is low or in the negative.
  • Parents can monitor their child’s lunch account balance through the online EZ School Pay system.
  • Parents are responsible for all charges incurred by their children.
  • Charges must be paid immediately upon notice or parents must send meals from home.
  • Please be aware that if your child is approved for free and reduced lunch no one other than the cafeteria staff will know this. The free and reduced lunch program offer many wonderful benefits to the school district. Free and reduced applications are accepted anytime throughout the school year. For your convenience you may also find a link on the school website to fill out the application.

CHARGE LIMITS:

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS: The charge limit is $15.00

JR/HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: The charge limit is $15.00

FAMILY ACCOUNTS ALL GRADES: The charge limit is $25.00

This generous credit line allows ample time for students and parents to be notified of the charges and deposit funds into the child’s lunch account. However, once these charge limits are reached, the student will be offered a nutritious alternate meal including milk and a peanut butter sandwich until their negative balance is paid in full.

SNACKS, BEVERAGES AND A LA CARTE ITEMS MAY NEVER BE CHARGED.

Additionally, if charges exist, students may NOT use cash to purchase snacks, beverages or a la carte items. Cash may be used to purchase a reimbursable meal.

All delinquent charges must be paid prior to the last day of school.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

Prepayments are encouraged, weekly, monthly etc. Your child’s account is like a savings account and will only be debited when they purchase meals or items.

Online Payments can be made with the EZ School Pay link located on the WLISD website. A small convenience fee is added to this form of payment.

Payments made by check are recorded in your child’s account by check number and the entire check must be deposited; we do not cash checks for students.

Payments are accepted anytime in the cafeteria.

Checks Returned for Non-Sufficient Funds

When a check is returned to the Office for NSF, a letter will be sent to inform the parent(s). Payment for the NSF check must be in the form of cash, cashier’s check, or money order. Payment must be received within 10 days of the date of the letter. If funds for the NSF check don’t get cleared up within the 10 day’s further prosecution will take place.

Special Diet Needs

If your child is in need of a special diet relating to a medical condition, please contact the Director of Child Nutrition, Hilda Crawford. Substitutions can be made to meals if it is required by doctor’s orders; a diet order form must be completed by the Doctor. Substitutions based on a child’s personal likes and dislikes will not be made.

Diet order forms are available on the Child Nutrition Page or in the cafeteria.

If you have any questions regarding these policies, please call Hilda Crawford, Director of Child Nutrition at (432)527-3880 ext. 7103.
