LESSON/ACTIVITY:

K-6th

(I.)

1-4/1-08

Introduce “The Irish Jig” as our selected dance. Place students in lines and have them sit with legs crossed. Show them right hand out then in x 4. Then left hand out and in x 4. I will do this about 3x to make sure students get this step. Then I will show them how to Chasse’. We will practice this for the remaining time.

1-11/1-15

Quickly review the hand crossing and Chasse’ and implement the hands with the feet. At the end of demonstrating with hands and feet, I will divide class into groups of 4 and square with couple 1 and 2. After we have our groups we will do the 1st steps of the dance.

1-18/1-22

Quickly review the 1st part of the dance and then add the couple’s part. Explain where their fists should be/ how their elbows should touch and counts of 4 for each couple. Add another part for the circling and explain the 8 counts and appropriate hand over hand. Then I will let each group perform and practice.

1-25/1-29

After we master all the steps we will take away the hands and have complete dance for the whole period until they master.
