2016 J. Garland Blair Swing – LCMS/LCHS Hosting

Hosted at LaRue County Middle/High School Campus

Dear Speech Team and Coach,

You are cordially invited to the J Garland Blair Swing hosted by LaRue County Middle and High Schools to be held on January 23, 2016 at LaRue County Middle/High School in Hodgenville, KY. We will be offering all K.H.S.S.L. junior division speech events with unlimited entries. Registration will begin at 7:00 in the front office of the middle school with Extemp draw beginning at 7:45 in the middle school library.

IN LIEU of 20% of your FEES: This year, as part of a larger service project in which our speech team is participating, we are asking each student to bring one item for our local food bank. Please see the attached list of suggested items for food pantries – they need MORE than food. For each individual student entry on your overall school entry, we are reducing the fee by $1 for EACH half of the tournament, and we would ask that each student bring at least two items to donate to the food bank. We would greatly appreciate your participation in this program, but we are reducing your fees regardless!

Entry fees: For BOTH portion of the tournament, the fee will be $4 per entry (duo events count as 2 entries). Please make checks to LaRue County Speech. Students may enter up to three events, but we will not hold rounds for late students, so we strongly urge you to enter only two events if you are doing limited prep.

Broadcasting: Second round of Broadcasting will be a prepared script. Please make sure your students bring scripts to use in both tournaments (that means they need 4 copies).

Judges: Each school must provide one (1) judge per six (6) individual events entries. 1-6 entries = 1 judge; 7-12 entries = 2 judges; 13-18 entries = 3 judges, etc. There will be a $25 fee per missing judge. Please bring judges! We would prefer your judges over your money!!!

Drops: All event drops on the morning of the tournament will result in a $10 fee. Judge drops will result in a $50 fee.

Entry deadlines: Please enter online at www.tabroom.com by 5:00 on Thursday, January 21, 2016. You may start putting entries in on Friday, January 1, 2016.

Schedule: This will be a swing tournament. Please see the schedule below. It will be tight, so make sure your students AND JUDGES are prepared for a very busy day! Judges need to understand that they may be judging up to 6 rounds in a row… I’m sorry, but that is the nature of the beast with a swing…

Trophies: Will be awarded to the top six (6) in each event, and sweepstakes for the top six (6) schools.

Lunch: We will have lunch stuff, snacks, and drinks available for sale in the middle school cafeteria. This year we will offer chicken dinners from Lee’s with 3 strips, mashed potatoes, and a biscuit for $5. These have to be pre-purchased by 10:30 a.m.

Addresses: Website – www.tabroom.com. Contact Katy Cecil via email with any questions. Please send all changes to the entry to Katy Cecil at .

Tournament Information

Dear Coaches,

It is VERY important that we get started on time and have a smooth tournament this weekend. Towards this end we’d like to pass along some information and reminders.

·  We ARE tripling. This means ALL Extempers who are tripling need to go to their Extemp round first then go to their Broadcasting round. Any Broadcaster who is competing in anything other than Extemp needs to go to Broadcasting first and then their other event.

·  Remind Judges to check the numbers they are given to see if they match the students in the rooms. It only slows us down when we have to move students because a judge did not pay attention to his/her list.

·  We are running on a TIGHT schedule, therefore students will not be able to leave for lunch. They need to bring money for pizza, nachos, and hot dogs, which will be on sale in the cafeteria.

·  If there are any problems, judges can call central command number 2000 on any black phone (located in every room in both buildings).

·  REMEMBER we want to stay on time. That means Extemp needs to be here and ready to go by 7:30 for the 1st Extemp draw.

·  Schedule is as follows, and we will do our very best to stick to it:

Round I – 1st Half 8:15 – 9:45 (Extemp Draw 7:45)

Round II – 1st Half 9:45 – 11:15 (Extemp Draw 9:15)

FINALS – 1st Half 11:45 (Extemp Draw 11:15)

Round I – 2nd Half 1:30 – 3:00 (Extemp Draw 1:00)

Round II – 2nd Half 3:00 – 4:30 (Extemp Draw 2:30)

FINALS – 2nd Half 5:15 (Extemp Draw 4:45)

Awards 7:00
