30 min. / Discussed how to make deity posters into a museum walk using an app on smart phone / Smart phone app – QR code / Creation of posters was the same, but presenting the information was different. Students loved recording the info and using the app. / Would be better with more smart phones/i-pads. Had to share devices that students brought in. / Great for auditory learners. Easy, immediate access to information.

20 min. / Read “children’s” book Eats, Shoots and Leaves with students using Elmo to help demonstrate the importance of correct comma usage. / Elmo / Students enjoyed the book. / Teacher would like more time practicing with Elmo to get used to placement. / After seeing how things can be misconstrued with incorrect comma placement, they understand why they are important.

Easy for students to use. / Again – it’s making sure that every student has a usable device. Site teacher creates is only “open” for that class period. / Every student is involved/actively learning. / Teacher thinks this can be used more often next semester when teaching sophomores who all have netbooks.

Very difficult to meet with teacher when there is no common planning time. After school commitments are tough to work around. / Definite positive impact on student learning. Taught students to be more self-sufficient. Gave them alternatives to create assignments/projects.
