Lexi-CompON-DESKTOP Installation Instructions
Starting the Lexi-ON DESKTOP Installer
- Insert your Lexi-ON DESKTOP Installation CD into your computer’s CD-ROM drive. The installation will automatically begin if your computer’s autorun feature is enabled. You may alternatively start the installation by clicking your Start button, selecting Run, and entering, without quotations, “X:\setup.exe” (where X is the letter of your CD drive).
- The first window to appear is the End User License Agreement. You must read through this document, agree to the terms, and click “OK” in order to proceed with the installation.
Typical Installation
- You will next be prompted to choose your installation type. The Typical installation will automatically install all necessary files and software (without prompting)to “C:\Program Files\Lexi-Comp, Inc\Lexi-Comp ON-DESKTOP.” The typical installation will install Java (without prompt) to C:\Program Files\Java if this step is required. Typical installation is recommended for users who do not need to customize the installation folders. If you wish to customize the installation location and options please skip to the Custom Installation Instructions.
- Java installation will automatically occur if a current version of Java is not installed on your system. You will not be prompted for any input during this step if you chose the typical installation option.
- Lexi-Comp ON-DESKTOP installation will then begin without prompt if the typical installation option has been chosen. Please note that the installation requires the copying and extraction of a large amount of files. This step may take several minutes depending on the speed of your computer.
- You will notice a content installer begin to extract many files into your computer during the installation. You should not attempt to cancel the content installer’s operation at this point.
- You may be prompted with Sun’s Java End User License Agreement when you first launch our software. You will only see this dialogue if you have never agreed to the Sun Java license in the past. You must agree to this license, as Lexi-ON DESKTOP is a Java-based application.
If you are not performing a custom installation, please skip to the ON- DESKTOP First Use Update section.
Custom Installation
- Choose the Custom installation type if you wish to customize the installation options.
- Java installation will automatically occur if a current version of Java is not installed on your system. Choose the “Custom Setup” if you wish to alter the installation folder and options.
- Click “Finish” to proceed with the Lexi-ON DESKTOP Installation
- The Lexi-ON DESKTOP installer will then begin, allowing you to change the installation folder and whether you wish to install for every user of the computer.
- Lexi-Comp ON-DESKTOP installation will then begin. Please note that the installation requires the copying and extraction of a large amount of files. This step may take several minutes depending on the speed of your computer.
- You will notice a content installer begin to extract many files into your computer during the installation. You should not attempt to cancel the content installer’s operation at this point.

Lexi-Comp ON-DESKTOP First Use Update
- Open Lexi-Comp ON-DESKTOP using the ON-DESKTOP icon found on your desktop.
- You will be prompted to register your software. You may register a purchased copy through the Internet or by calling our customer support department. You may also close this dialogue using the red X in the upper right corner of the window to use the 30-day free trial.
- Choosing the Internet registration method will require you to input your login and password you use to access lexi.com. You may click the “Create Account” link if you do not have a login and password. Enter your login, password, and product key to register your program. The product key is located on a sticker on inside of the CD case or the accompanying documentation. Your computer must be connected to the Internet during this step. Call our technical support department at 1-866-397-3433 to register over the phone if an Internet connection is not available.
- You will be prompted to re-register if the activation fails. You may click Back to attempt the registration or click Finish to simply use the program as a free trial for 30 days.
- You will be notified of a successful installation. Click finish to enter the ON-DESKTOP software.
- Our update feature will allow you to update your clinical content as well as newly released ON-DESKTOP features. We highly recommend you update your software after your initial installation and update the software at least every two weeks to ensure you have the most up-to-date information. Updates are provided daily and you may feel free to use this service as often as you wish during your subscription period.
To update, choose Tools from the top menu and select Update.
- The Update feature will open as a window within the program. Click the “Update” button to start the update process. You must be connected to the Internet to use this feature.
- You will then see the latest updates begin to download from the Internet. The speed of this process is dependant upon your Internet connection and the number of updates needed. Please do not cancel this update or disconnect from the Internet while the update is occurring.
- When the update completes, click “Finish.” You will then be brought back to the ON-DESKTOP program. Your software is now updated and ready for use.
